So I had a terrible first semester. I goofed off and and didnt study as hard as i should of. Mainly because i was trying really hard to have fun in stony which is very difficult because the people here are not very social and if anything, just boring. I ended up with 1.9 GPA. I am not used to receiving these kinds of results. In highschool i easily was able to get a 3.3 without ever studying. This semster i got a c in chem, f in sociology, A- in pre calc, and i spoke to my writing professor and said he would give me either a b+ or a-

But my spring semester starts 1/23/12 and I am really expecting to do well this time. Its so difficult to do anything in stony that i have given up all hope on my social life and will instead focus on my future. I am taking Organisms to Ecosystems (bio 201) , intro to business for non business majors (bus 111), Calculus (mat 125), General chemistry II (che 132), Logical and critical reasoning (phi 108) and a mandatory seminar class.

I would like to know my chances of transfer for fall semester. I plan on getting B+ or higher in all of my classes. As far as my non-academic activities, I have been working in a dental office as an dental assistant for 2 years, I joined an informational religious club as well as the pre-dental society. I was also one of the only freshmen to be elected for a spot on the board of the Pre-D society.

I really want to get out of Stonybrook, and even more so, go to Binghamton. Please tell me if i have a shot and if so, what I must do.

I don’t think it looks good for fall of soph year as spring grades won’t be in when you apply. They will want your HS records and a 3.3 isn’t great for Binghamtom…This is from collegeboard 58% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
18% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
14% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
6% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
4% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99

Did you have good SAT’s?
SAT Critical Reading: 580 - 670 94%
SAT Math: 620 - 700 94%
SAT Writing: 570 - 660 94%
ACT Composite: 26 - 30 29%

If you had great HS stats they might consider you, but with a 1.9? nah. You should have withdrawn from Soc rather than take an F. Can you retake it this spring and replace the grade? You should consider a Jan 2013 trans at the earliest if you do well this Spring. No point in showing them the Fall grades without some good spring grades to even it out. Maybe consider community college for a semester or 2 if you hate SB so much. My son got in this Jan to his transfer school. He hated his school and if he wasn’t accepted as transfer would have done CC and reapplied later.

If you had great SAT’s it might be worth it. Soc was your only really bad class. Could they cut you a break? Maybe…

Thanks for the feed back, and yes my highschool grades, senior year were really good. (thats what they look at the most right?) i took 2 college courses as well as a math and science. my lowest grade that year was an A-. As for my SAT grades, I got a 550 in reading 640 in math, and 570 in writing.i know its not that great but it falls in close with the range.

I also have a friend applied for spring semester this year and got in. She didn’t have any grades posted but the school asked for her mid semester grades which were all good. So hypothetically, if i have an B+ or higher average in all my courses when my professors assess my mid semester grade, wont it show great improvement from my previous semester?
