Has anyone read that the class of 2011 increased by 12%? If this is true, do you think the dorms will be overcrowded?

Uuggghh, where did you hear this?

It was in the UD Daily (you should sign up for it - comes in your email). Part of Russell was renovated and is reopening. I didn't see it but I'm guessing that they have enough space for everyone.

How many students can Russell hold? Is Russell additional housing compared to last year?

Would Delaware put three students in a room built for two?

I don't know - you can probably figure it our from the residence life site. Russell had several sections, A is the one reopening. The Russell complex (which included Lane and Thompson) was honors housing (60/40 last year). I don't think there were any enforced triples last year but there were the year before. Interestingly, quite a few kids stayed in the triples by choice even when doubles/singles opened up.
Also, quite a few parents wanted their kids in triples as it was cheaper!!

This is Udel's largest class ever as compared to last years class being the smallest frosh class in a while (A difference of about 600). I also heard they were concerned because more people accepted offers for admission than anticipated.

I remember seeing somewhere with renovations at Russell that may not be complete, some freshman may be moved into sophomore housing in Harrington.

But either way, be ready for triples.

Delaware would put three in a room built for two. It happened to my daughter freshman year in the ray street dorms. Delaware has built new freshman dorms like George Read and another one on Laird campus.

Did your daughter hate having 3 in a room?

squeezing 3 into a double room must be nasty. I mean think about how small the space is already, and then you are throwing in another bed, dresser, human-being, and maybe not enough closet space.

I lived in a triple in ray street and I know a lot of freshmen who were in triples and it is awful!! Some people can switch before spring semester but usually thats just a hassle, so people stay in the room. i didnt get along with my roommates but I met people down the hall and live with them now. There are a lot of new buildings though and I recommend laird campus because they are really nice and Tomas Mckean and George Read are for freshmen and they dont have any triples in there.

I lived in a triple freshman year and it was fine. Shocking at first, but we survived. There were LOTS of housing openings this past year. My building had a few open rooms with no one living in them and I know other buildings had simliar situations.

Do you know what dorms have triples? Do you know which dorms the business majors are placed in?
