Freshman Class Registration??

It seems Telebears Phase I enrollment began April 7. Does this mean for incoming freshman those who accepted the offer of admission earlier would get faster enrollment for classes? And on the Cal SO website it says Phase I registrations happen at orientation. So do you have to attend orientation to do registration or can you just do it on your own? And if you do have to attend orientation, does that mean those who go to earlier orientations will have an advantage in signing up for courses? I'm trying not to panic as I'm afraid popular courses like CS61A are already filled before I've even accepted the offer of admission.

Yes, an earlier date will give you a better phase 1. Remember that it is phase 1 though, so most classes won’t completely fill up.

I think CS61A is usually pretty good at getting everyone in. Last fall they expanded to accommodate over 1000 students. But to be on the safe side, the earlier you go to CalSO, the better your chances are.

There’s also an online CalSO for people that can’t make any dates, which is what I did. For that one, you have to read a bunch of stuff, and then you submit a list of proposed classes and a counselor emails back approving it or giving helpful comments. I don’t think they let you register online if you’re physically attending CalSO though, and I think the online dates were kinda late compared to most CalSO ones.

http://telebearsoracle.com/</a> can give you hints on how classes filled up (or not) historically (use past fall semesters to estimate the upcoming fall semester, be be aware of the rapid rise in CS enrollment in recent years).
