So my enrolling time for classes was twenty minutes ago, and I got on it right when I could, but when I tried to enroll in the classes that I had planned for, three out of four of them are waitlisted, I would like to know should I keep it that way or should I try for other time before they get full too? Cuz I'm freaking out a little :(

Here are the classes:
MATH 20B D06 Calculus/Science & Engineering Waitlist position:1
CHEM 6A E05 General Chemistry I Waitlist position:17 (I think that's normal for chem?)
MMW 11 A07 Pre-History & Ancient Foundatn Waitlist position:5 - I'm most worried about this one!

well for chemistry you might want to go with the class with the least waitlist and not your favorite professor [if that is what you did]
Math 20B and MMW seem fine as you definitely have a great shot at those. Chemistry worries me a bit with such a high waitlist number it could go either way. wait for more proper advice from other CC members though im like you, an incoming freshman

hey, I’m incoming freshman too so I don’t have an experience but I searched and heard what people said so this might help…
Of course there are exceptions, but I heard about 10% of students drop out of their classes… so if your number is less than the 10% you should give a shot
but in case of chemistry, I think 17 is way too large number to wait… Well unless there are more than 170 in the class…

its a huge risk. im assuming you chose crowell or sailor.
check on the times of Czworkowski and see if that matches your schedule. His teaching is rather poor and his lectures are boring as hell [but not as bad as magde]…If you go the Czworkowski route keep in mind that you will need to do some solo studying because you will learn much better that way. keep in mind though that there are still a couple of days left
If UCSD adds students, thus increasing the number of total students, you would have a better chance and im assuming UCSD will enroll the first ten waitlisters on each class [they might go 20, who knows!!] which would make you about waitlister 7, thus with the 10% rule in mind, 4 students might drop out leaving you at #3 which is a coin toss.

You’ll probably get in for Calc. You MIGHT get in for Chem, and you most likely won’t get in for MMW. I suggest you choose a different MMW section if possible, or simply choose a different class.

I just checked webreg again, and I’m seeing that all but two of the MMW11 classes are full, and all of Herbst’s classes are on waitlist(around 6+ people each)… So I think I’m gunna wait a few days and see :)

I think I’ll be fine for Calc :D

But all the chem classes are full!!(with 17+ people on waitlist) I don’t think I’m gunna switch to another class, but i’m just curious, is this kinda wait listing normal for college?

They’re going to expand the classes. Czworkowski has shorter waiting list than that, though. You really shouldn’t take the chance because what if they only add 15 more seats and someone takes that 15 spot for Czworkowski that you could have had.

Is it still normal to still be on waitlist?
I moved up to # 6 for Chem6a, and #3 for MMW11, and still #1 for Calc.
Should I stay on the waitlist?

A lot of people don’t ever get off the waitlist. Especially with a class like MMW11, which all ERC students HAVE no choice but to take, it is rather unlikely that someone would drop it. The reason you might have gone up in the waitlist is because some of the people before you decided to drop it and signed up for DuBois instead. You might want to do that before all the MMW classes are full and you can’t take it this year. :(

Yes, stay on the waitlist! Your chances for Chem and Calc are pretty good. It is almost certain that you’ll get into Calc and there’s a good chance you’ll get into Chem as well. Not sure about MMW though.

Your biggest problem is that people who register, almost 100% of the time, keep the class. The only exception is if they decide to change things up a bit and they need a different class and have to drop something for something else. I myself did this last year. I found out I was failing 20B so I quickly dropped 20C the next quarter and hopped on 20B for Winter while I still had a chance.

Stay on for 20B since you’re #1 on that list. With Chem, being #6, I would still be worried. Try to crash other sections when classes start. Unfortunately at UCSD, the drop without a W grade is very far into the quarter. (At community colleges, you have to decide fast to drop or not)

Get another MMW section. No one will drop that class. Not a chance at all. But getting into the series classes (Math, Chem) is vital. You can’t put those behind or you’ll have to make up during the summer. And summer classes are BRUTAL here.
