Hey guys. I'm going to be a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences, with a major in biology.

I'm in a bit of an odd situation. besides NYU, i also applied to cornell, and have a "guaranteed transfer" so long as i maintain a minimum 3.5 gpa.

even though i'm not sure if i want to actually transfer out of NYU, because it's pretty kick-ass, i still want the option open.

so i guess i'm trying to ask what classes are a bit "fluffy", and what gen-ed courses will be a real pain to do well in?

I would advise you to stay away for Conversations of the West (ConWest). While all professors are different grading wise- I know its a lot of reading and work overall. I had a tough professor for ConWest and didn't do so well in the course.

If you are going pre-med, i'd advise you to take Bio, Chem, Writing The Essay (which is a lot of work and it sucks, but I am pretty sure you are gonna need to take writing courses in cornell as well, so either way you need to take it), and perhaps one other easy elective. There is a course (through the french department) called "La Belle Epoque". A lot of pre-med students take this, being it's a very easy course- no tests, no midterm, no final- just like 4 or 5 papers and readings. And it counts for an expressive cultures class, which if you stay at NYU, you are going to need in order to fulfill a MAP requirement.

World Cultures Caribbean with Kahn is supposively decently easy as well, and most of the other world cultures classes are decently difficult, from what I hear.

If you are good at math, consider a calculus class, because the curves in these classes tend to be quite fair (at least with my experiences so far in calc 2 and now in calc 3).

Thats all I can think of for now... if i think of anything else i'll let you know.

good luck!
