freshman conducting science research

The Yale website says that "Freshmen can begin conducting original research through a unique year-long course called Perspectives on Science and Engineering (PSE)." Does it imply that freshman cannot conduct research if they are not enrolled in PSE?

No. My son dropped PSE and landed a fantastic summer research opportunity funded by Yale.

But what if one wants to conduct research during the academic year?

May I ask why?

I can’t offer you much detail, but he found that it was a great idea in concept that wasn’t really workable in practice. Too many disciplines covered too superficially.

And PSE doesn’t offer research opportunities during the school year; the carrot is a splendid, well-paid summer research opportunity on campus.
