Freshman Connection to Computer Science

Hello, I am considering going to UMD through the Freshman Connection program and then go into computer science. Can anyone with knowledge of the FC program answer a few questions? I have talked with advisors and am looking for some other opinions. First off, is transfer into the cs program guaranteed? Will I be able to take the same classes as other true freshman cs students? Will I be on track with the other cs students or will I have to take classes in the summer or for an extra year? Also, I have seen recent posts regarding the difficulty of the cs program. In high school, I took two programming classes and earned high A’s, and spend some of my free time learning about programming and computers in general. How difficult is the program and do you think someone in my situation would struggle? Any information or personal stories about the program would be greatly appreciated!

So I am not in the FC program. However, to my knowledge, CS is not an LEP so you should be able to transfer in with no problems. Also, I think that if you take their intro to CS course (I’m sure they have one), you should be fine. If you think that is a lower level than what you’re doing, you can take an exemption test. It’s kinda like an AP exam except that it won’t give you credit if you meet the threshold. If you do pass, then they put you in an accelerated course. You do not have to take the exemption exam. I know it doesn’t answer all of your questions but I hope it helps

@cc1chances Hello, I am a comp sic major at UMD, and I hope I didn’t scare you with some of the CS posts. Computer Science was only hard for me because I did not have a good math background and I have no knowledge of programming, if you have experience you will be fine.

Cc1chances if you are really interested in freshman connection classes are filling up fast. I wouldn’t wait too long to make a decision. You can check online and see how many spaces are left in each class.
