I'm an incoming freshman for UC Berkeley and I have finished all my 7 breadth GE through community college. I have also finished most of my pre-req (with the exception of UGBA 10) for Haas through AP Cred (Calc, Lit, Econ 5s) and some other CC courses (Stats) too.

Can I apply to HAAS my freshman year? If so, what should my courseload be for my freshman year? I was thinking I could pursue another major and take the prereq courses for that major?

I think you have to apply to Haas as a sophomore. In addition to taking ugba 10 at Cal, you need to take at least one semester of Calc or Stat at Cal (or maybe this is only for the Economics major, which is a common back-up major to the Haas business major since the two have overlapping pre-reqs)

I’m not 100 percent sure about this though. Make sure to ask your pre-business advisor questions during CalSO (freshman student orientation in June/July) if you need more info!

You might have to take stat. From what I remember, there is no equivalent CC class for Stat 20/21. If you use assist.org, there are classes that meet the Haas requirement for Statistics but that is only for transfer students. If you want to see if your class is equivalent, select Berkeley and your CC on assist.org, click stat department for berkeley, and see if there is an equivalent course for stat 20 or 21.

I did take the Stats course (Elementary Statistics and Probability) as approved by assist.org for my CC while I was concurrently in high school and got an A in the class. Does that mean I can apply to Haas my freshman year?

I have 5’s in Econ, 5 in Calc BC, 5 in Lit, 5 in Spanish, finished my GE through CC courses (approved on assist.org), taken Stats…and passed the QR, FL, R&C things.

What classes should I take as a freshman applying to Haas?

You have to take at least one math class (math/stat) AT Berkeley. Also, I’m not sure if you can satisfy the literature requirement with AP score because its suppose to be in addition to your normal one year of English.

I took my classes at De Anza / Foothill. I finished all my GEs + Stats and have the AP credits.
Yeah, I was wondering about that too but can’t I get ECs from my first semester?

Math 10 works from De Anza. And so does all other courses
I happen to have taken courses at De Anza too, so I know that most of them transfer.

All you need to take is UGBA 10 + either Stats 21 or Math 16A + Lit Req. Lit req is different from R1A/B, it’s an additional course that must be taken at Cal.

I believe you can apply Freshman year, but also remember, if you get rejected, you can’t apply again. If you apply Freshman year, there’ no time to get involved in campus activities etc. When you apply in Nov, you have to list your post-high school involvement, and in 2 months, that’s basically nothing.

You might as well use this time to pursue your 2nd major, get involved and then apply sophomore year :)

I THINK the course you took only counts if you are applying as a transfer. The reason I’m being so persistent about this is because I remember an adviser saying there is no CC equivalent of stat 20/21.

As far as ECs, you’ll only have 2 or 3 months under your belt. It will make you less competitive.

This is so weird! I’m in practically the same boat as you (although I haven’t finished all of my requirements yet). I was also considering applying for Haas my freshman year, but ultimately decided to apply with the rest of the Class of 2014 and pursue a second major in with my extra time.

If you look at the Haas Admissions for UCB students website ([Admissions for UC Berkeley Students, Undergraduate Program - Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley](<a href=“Admissions - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas”>Admissions - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas)), it says that you need at least 60 semester units before you can apply. Even taking the maximum number of units, there’s no way a freshman can finish that requirement in a year.
