I’m starting 9th grade this year. My course load (so far) is:
AP Bio
AP World History
AP Human Geo
Algebra 2 Honors
Spanish 3 Honors
English 1 (required for all freshmen)
I can’t decide if I should take FLVS (online school) AP classes. I want to take either AP Art History or AP Macro/Micro which are both 1/2 semester each. I don’t know if I should take on another AP class considering it’s my freshman year and I’m a chronic slacker. Any advice on what to take or if I even should be taking another AP? Also, any tips on freshman year and the above mentioned AP classes (like what to study/review books) and any other tips in general would be nice.

I can only speak for Ap bio and human geo … if your a “chronic slacker” which let me tell u now i also am to ! … you’ll have to quit that habit ASAP cause human geo is all 95% vocab and 5% concepts … and Ap bio is a 100% true test of your memorization if you think u can memorize stuff Ap bio will test that … so if u feel like u can handle it go ahead …
and from my experience with FLVS (finished 3 classes from there and plan on NEVER EVER EVER EVER taking a class there again) ALL the teachers on there are very annoying ! so it makes u want to not work on tht class and than makes u behind … so what i would do is just stick to what u have now and just do good in those classes lol … cause think when May (ap exams) come you’ll be stressed no need for extra stress

Esspically since your just a freshman … you dont need to take every Ap classs now, u can spread them out within the 3 years of high school you’ll have left

O.o You’re taking 3 APs as a freshman?! Sure, Bio and HuGeo aren’t the hardest courses, but the course load will definitely take its toll on you if you aren’t 150% invested in it. It’s your first year of high school, don’t try to kill yourself all at once!

That IS spreading out the APs. If I could take more freshman year, I would, because Jr./Sr. year is 6-9 each death and I felt that I wasted SO much time playing video games and dawdling freshman year.
Tips:
I found the AP Bio review book “Cliff’s” to be extremely helpful. It’s the biggest timesaver to learn things for your homework (your class may be much more in-depth than the AP test but the book alone often can get you the A), but is a 5 on the AP test if you go through most of the chapters. Make sure you pay attention to the new test format though.

World History/Human Geography, it’s also knowing things class.–After taking AP World–which gives you a lot of background about the world’s regions, I found Human Geo much much easier and score higher on practice tests now than I did as a freshman and the concepts were fresh. World is what I call the course-note and easy to cram review book a couple days before the test. The key to this is studying while thinking about the essays. Look for comparison and contrasts between societies and change/continuity over time while you study and you’ll be ready to write any essay they throw at you.

Good luck to you in High School! Heheh, someone I know who I think is aiming for State AP scholar had a similar schedule to yours freshman year although the school only offers 1 AP. I see a bright future in you.

Thanks for the tips you guys! I really want to take AP Art History, but I think I’ll save that for sophomore year. My parents want me to get straight A’s, which is going to be quite a feat for me. Also, if you guys could give any study tips that would be helpful too. I made it through middle school without studying at all and with AP classes now, I’m needing to study the legit way. My studying habits at the moment are open a textbook and get distracted in texting my friends… Haha :-/

Make sure you keep up with taking notes in the textbook in ANY AP class. Review books are used to help study for tests and the exam. Using the textbook largely contributed to my performance on the exam. It is a college course, which means you should be able to grasp understanding of a college level textbook. Make sure you study well throughout the year. Reviewing for AP exams will be less stressful then. Good luck!

For study tips at minimum 1-2 hours a day of studying per class (per Ap class)
