to the class of 2010 and other harvard students- what classes did you take your freshman year? is there room for experimentation or do you have to focus on fulfilling Core requirements?

i'm 2009

I took
Fall:
Psych1205 – Neuropharmaceuticals: Ethics + Neurobiology (taught by the Provost Steve Hyman, who's amazing)
Science B-29 – Evolution of Human Nature (aka "sex") (now offered in spring)
Chem 5 – Now no longer offered, replaced by Life Sci 1a
Law of the Internet – Freshman seminar, very awesome.

Spring:
Chem 7 – Now called Physical Science 1a, essentially the same class
Life Sci 1b – Genetics. Some good profs, some horrible ones.
Expos – Oodles of fun.
Rome of Augustus – a hist b/lit + arts c core (counts as one or the other)
Psych research for credit – In Daniel Gilbert's lab

Didn't do too much in the way of cores, but got a lot of premed + concentration requirements done. I was originally thinking about Psych, but ended up in Human Evolutionary Biology – MBB track. Have a lot of cores to take Junior/Senior year (Only took one sophomore year), but I'll have the space to get them done. It was more important to me to figure out what I wanted to do.
