Hi, I'm 18 and will be attending FSU in the fall. My orientation is in June but I have no idea what courses to sign up for. Are there specific courses that freshman have to take or do I pick something from my major? I really don't know what courses are even available, so any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm an undeclared major by the way.

Hey Georgie841,

If you have an inkling as to what interests you, just take those courses. Just experiment for a semester or two before you jump into legit major courses.

Take courses that look appealing to you. No hurry brah

lol i’m a girl but thanx for your help anyway.

Do you have any credits coming in? You will speak with an adviser at orientation, so don’t worry about not knowing what to take. You’ll have to take many Gen Ed requirements, so no worries if you don’t know what you want to study yet.

you’re not really going to get into that many “major” courses unless you’re a psych major in which case you can take PSY2012.

One class I’d recommend everyone takes is Speech, its required to graduate and if you get Mark Zeigler he is one of the BEST professors at FSU, If you don’t get him for speech then drop the class and make sure you get him. He teaches you so much more than speech; life lessons, how to get a job, etc are all part of his class.

Thanx for the advice mannymix03 because this was something that I was really worrying about. I didn’t want to be completely lost on orientation day. I’m coming in with AP credit in world history, government, and composition. I’m also dual enrolled in enc1101, diversity, and American history so I will be bringing those credits in as well. The ones that I’m not sure about are AP Literature and Microeconomics since I have yet to take the AP exams.

^^ Random note: General psych is only a pre-req, not a major class.

Anyway, don’t be afraid to dabble around with classes like satscholar said. I’d advise checking out courses you think you’d be interested in now through the course search. Might be nice to pick out a schedule and a back up schedule (if it looks like one of the classes will fill up) before you go to orientation. If a class you Really want is closed fill it in with something else for now and wait for drop/add week. Lots of classes move around then.

Watch out that classes you like aren’t restricted to majors only. I took some extra time to check out possible minors my freshman year. I took Social Problems (SYG2010), Ethics (PHI2630), and Logic (PHI3130). My major is Psychology. Since you are coming in with so many credits you should have lots of wiggle room to pick whatever seems interesting to you!
