D came back from registering for classes signed up for a number of courses she hadn’t considered 10 hours earlier. Are you getting your important prerequisite classes or are you finding the classes closed out? What is your experience? I guess I was expecting more assistance from the Honors Challenge staff. Her friends in science seemed to have less of a problem.

It was pretty tough. Not a single language class (her minor) was available for my daughter. On the bright side, she, a through-and-through humanities type, wound up with an introductory Engineering class that she would have never taken in a zillion years. ("ENG" on the way to "ENGLISH" in the catalog. Topical breadth? Go figure.) I think it was the only downside, and part of the state-school thing. However, several of the schools she visited (small, private LACs) have the same challenge, and they remarked upon it in the paperwork in the parents folder.

I chose my classes yesterday and I got almost every class I wanted. Anyway, I don't think you should be concerned if you don't exactly get your choice classes. According to one of the summer advisors, it isn't critical that you start on your major classes right away.

I had a great experience with registering. Sat up 'til three in the morning working out my schedule with a few friends and got it set up perfectly with multiple layouts. When we entered the lab I surprisingly got the first set of classes I entered, so I just printed out the summary and walked out.

Good times..

I think it is embarrassing that freshman can't get an introductory class within their major or minor area of study. Why accept students who have declared a major without having the courses to offer them. It is no wonder that the state schools can't graduate more of their students within four years.
