When are the freshman directories mailed out?

To the best of my recollection, they are mailed out in August. Most students (if not all) use Facebook much more though.

^ Modern times. :)

So it will still be a few weeks.

I thought that I would enjoy looking at it as I heard names throughout the year to see what the new friends looked like. However, a lot of people were not even included in the directory; I suppose they did not send in the info on time or possibly at all.

I personally like paper and the ability to see a page at a time. Doubt I will get to reference the book during the year as we only purchased the one copy and D is likely to be taking it with her to school.

The directories are also fun to own for the future. I still have mine (somewhere) from my freshman year at Duke. On facebook, the pictures are updated with new ones. The freshman directory will always represent the student’s entrance to college.

Here is just an interesting observation to pass on. If you log in to the harvard facebook and select “search” on just freshman, there is a list of the 2013 freshmen. There are 1669 entries and a small percentage have uploaded photos already.

Smoda - D is away and I’m writing on D’s cc account to ask you - D got in off the waitlist in June and reports the 2013 facebook group is closed and administrators not listed or something like that - anyway, she hasn’t been able to join - do you have any info that could help?
Thanks!
Miakoukla’s mom

First, my question is are you talking about “Facebook” like [Welcome to Facebook | Facebook](http://www.Facebook.com) that students join regardless of their school or are you talking about Harvard’s facebook which is available at my.Harvard.edu?

The Freshman Register is also handy for home addresses, and to see where classmates went to high/prep school. Since many photos are senior pics, they tend to look much better than the freshman orientation ID photos taken in the heat and humidity, sans haircomb.

@miakoukla - When you search the group, do you see in the top right corner a button that says “Request to Join”?

smoda and edicion,

I’m sure its the regular facebook and not the one on Harvard’s website that D tried to join and its apparently closed with the administrators secret or something like that (sorry I don’t know facebook lingo), but she has been unable to “request to join”. Smoda is the Harvard website one your daughter is on? D gets back tomorrow and I will tell her to check cc in case you have suggestions. Thanks for your help.

The one that I mentioned in post #6 about the list of freshman is Harvard’s.

D is a member of the Harvard group on regular facebook. First set I would take is to make sure that your D has Harvard as one of her “Networks”. A student cannot join the Harvard network until that have an official Harvard e-mail account (I remember impatiently waiting until she got her e-mail). So the sets I would take:
- Make sure that she has her Harvard e-mail set up - those instructions were in the acceptance packet
- Set Harvard as one of her Networks - I don’t know how this is done. Your daughter probably will.
- Go to the group. There should be a list of admins for the group. I am sure that the list can be seen. I would start by her contacting on of the admins and asking them to “join” her. Since she will have Harvard as one of her networks, her explanation of how she is a recent waitlist acceptance.

The other thing that she can check out is my.harvard.edu and log in with her HUID and password. She can then select “campus resources” and then “Harvard College Facebook”. She can check that she is on that list of class of 2013. She can also mentioning that to the regular Facebook class of 2013 admins.

Hope this was of help.

PM me if you have other questions. My D will be back in town tonight and can look up info in the regular facebook.

Does anyone know how I would upload a picture onto the Harvard Facebook? My name is there, but I cannot find no way to upload a picture onto facebook or onto the FAS Directory where I believe they are pulling the information from.

I believe that those photos are all being uploaded by Harvard. I think that those are the freshman ID photos - either the one that you sent in earlier in the summer or the one that Harvard took at admitted student’s weekend or will take after you arrive on campus in August. I am guessing that the low number of photos just represents those that Harvard has had time to load and that more will be there each day (But that is only my guess)

Thanks Smoda! You are a great help!

I do hope that the instructions solve your problem. :)

Thanks for all the help!
