I was looking into the residence halls at tOSU and there are so many options. Can anyone tell me some of the better residence hall names that tend to be bigger, have A.C.? Also, this is just me being picky, but do you think a freshman would be able to get a dorm that is a single with an A.C. and bathroom inside the dorm? If not, how about a two person room with A.C. and bathroom? Which residence halls have this?
@globalthinker It will be fairly hard for you to get a single. But your best shot is to turn in your housing form as soon as it comes out. As far as preference in terms of dorms, Park-Stradley and Smith-Steeb are the two I recommend on South with A/C, and almost every dorm on North has A/C. Scott House is in prime location if you can get it. Just don’t get West campus. anythinggg but west campus.
@kdiddy34 Thank you so much! I also heard bad things about West Campus, not sure why! So you prefer South more? I heard a lot of people like North more
I think it depends on what you are going for. South campus is closer to the oval and the Union and high street. North campus is closer to campus. West campus is close to the rpac and thompson. I would recommend that you don’t get a single as a freshman. Some people i have met this year that lived in singles felt left out of the floor because everyone was paired up with their roommate. Smith-Steeb, Park-Strad and Siebert are pretty good on south campus. For North campus, torres and Scott are pretty nice.
@globalthinker For your sanity do not do West Campus. It’s just far away from anything that’s relevant on campus and the social scene is not very fun. Also the only dining hall in West Campus is Morrill Traditions which is widely known as the single worst place to eat on campus. The quads on West campus have zero space and in general the only pro to living on West is that you’re closer to the RPAC and from the quality of the gyms on south and north campus, you’re not missing THAT much. I lived in Lincoln for one night during orientation and it proved to me that what everyone said about West campus was 100% accurate. Will there be people that like it? sure.
But realize you’re a good 20 minute walk from High Street and if you’re into off-campus events like parties and stuff like that, it’s probably 30+ minutes. If you’re more of a quiet person you may be fine though.
I like South just because it’s central to bars/restaurants on High, thompson, the RPAC, ALL the on-campus dining on south, and some nice outdoor fields to throw a football around or play frisbee or something. Some of the dorms are old and not that nice but the location is prime. The big drawback is that you’re pretty far from classes, but in some ways it’s almost refreshing to walk past mirror lake and the oval every morning. South has also been much more social usually but the dynamics will likely change for next year.
I’m a freshman who got a single in a brand new dorm somehow. I actually found that I didn’t feel left out on my floor, I just kept my door open and let people come see me. If you’re a social person, I think you’ll be fine in a single.
I’m a freshman who is in west campus and housing has placed me in it again. Sure, it is a non-traditional dorming style, but you can own up to 2 rooms (your bedroom and bedroom), so you will have a lot of space to use. If you also just get involved with your tower’s events (or even specific clubs exclusive to west campus), things won’t be all that bad. Although our dining hall has the worst reputation on campus, but hey, Ohio gets a lot of bad weather, so either an elevator ride down or short outside walk would be convenient.
Yes but there are other places on campus that you can get MUCH better food with an elevator ride down or short outside walk.
Getting involved with your tower’s events will only take you so far considering every other hall has similar if not better events. You don’t have much space to use at all in some of the quads/doubles and you get so much more space in other dorms. You’re also very far away from classes. Really don’t recommend West campus
