Freshman dorms at Rosehill

We toured both Martyr’s Court and Loschert and they both seemed fine and pretty comparable. My son is not interested in the wellness learning community so he won’t live in Bishop’s Court (which is too bad as it seems nice) and he isn’t eligible for the Manresa program (because he’s in the Honors program). Are all the freshman rooms in Loyola taken up by students in the Manresa program, or are there some other rooms available there? Which freshman dorms would people recommend given the previous parameters? Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you!

I thought the honors kids lived in Loyola…perhaps I heard wrong.

There is no Honors Housing designated. Loyola is where all the Manresa Scholars live.

I would suggest that he do the application for Queens Court anyway, my daughter wished she had. She had the same feeling regarding Queens, not interested in the “wellness community” and she wound up spending most of her time there anyway.

Loschert/South is nice because at least if you’re in a triple it’s not too cramped. Martyr’s rooms are small, and if you are in a triple it is cramped.

Keep all options open. Loyola had a lot of triples this past year but the rooms are large enough that it wasn’t a big deal.

Also, there are no AC’s in Loschert/South. There is AC in Queen’s and Martyr’s. Not too sure about Loyola, but I THINK there is since it was a Jesuit residence.

The past couple of years has seen many forced triples in the freshman dorms. Just about every room in Martyr’s was a triple this year. When Loyola opened it was doubles and the rooms are HUGE. Then the next year a few triples and this year I believe it was mainly triples.

My daughter was in a double in Marty’s -Goupil this year and it was okay as a double. Originally the room was slotted as triple. Triples in these small rooms would be doable but very cramp. We would suggest putting in the application/essay for Loyola or Queens. My daughters words were “we can only be upgraded after Martyrs” and she was right. She will be in O hare -West-wing for her sophomore year. BTW FYI if Fordham keeps with past history freshman won’t find out your assigned dorm until until early August. Welcome to Fordham

555 Rules (but, no freshmen).

@glido any thoughts about the dorms that do house freshmen?

I have been away too long . . . the folks who have been there more recently will have a better handle on it. Alan Alda lived in Martyrs’ Court!

@glido lol, that’s a fun fact!

Fond memories of the Martyrs’ A-7 Friday happy hour in the early 80s. Someone’s father owned a Labatt beer distributor and would send a truck to make deliveries. Those were the days.

Go Rams!

Loschert and South (aka “Dirty South”) are nice, but it tends to get crazy. My daughter wanted to live in South and to this day she is thankful she never did. Refused to apply to Queens and regretted it because she spent most of her time there. Was assigned Martyr’s and it was good. She survived. Had a single sophomore year (post-housing lotto) and lived there every summer for summer session. My kid deserves a medal.

Only problem----they don’t clean as much. It’s like they do a cursory wipe down and that’s it. It would be nice in a perfect world where everyone just wiped up after themselves and flushed a toilet when they’re done. But no. Unfortunately this happens in every college you go to where you have communal bathrooms. After freshman year you hope and pray to get into a dorm with your own bathroom.
