freshman dorms

What are the best suite style dorms for freshman - Admitted Fall 2011 College of Humanities (CHASS). thank you

I think freshman have limited choices. The “Living and Learning Villages” restrict who lives in many of the central campus dorms. Has your child considered joining one of the “villages” to live in a specific dorm? Tucker and Owen are all 1st year college students (undecided majors) so the only choice for the rest of freshmen are the 3 towers. There are 3D floor plans of each of the dorms at the housing website- [Experience Campus Living](http://www.ncsu.edu/housing/apply/experience.php)

Our daughter is having trouble finding roommate for next year. We’re using a website called ■■■■■■■■.com to find a good match but have had no luck so far. She wants to meet someone new but doesn’t want the University to pick someone at random. She’s worried that it’s too late for this fall.

Local wolves-- is your d in FYC? My d is on the verge of picking ncsu–it’s been a hard decision–and she’ll be in FYC if she goes to ncsu. If your d would be open to an OOS roommate, my d knows nobody there, and maybe we can put them in touch. State being 90% in-state is her biggest concern…but she’s very outgoing and I dont expect she 'll have any problem fitting in. I’ll refer her to the room surf website.

Kb, This info might be of interest to you. Not sure if it was only sent to students who have put down deposits.

Dear New Residents,

You’re the first group of new students to use our online system to
select your building/room and preferred roommate. We are very excited
about this new application and hope you are as well.

Beginning May 2, if you have paid your Admissions Enrollment Deposit,
you can use The Housing Application Renewal Process (HARP) to select a
building/room and roommate for the upcoming 2011-2012 academic year.

Living in a Village?

If your application has been approved and you plan to accept the offer
to live in one of our nine Living & Learning Villages, do not sign up
for a room on line. The Assignments Office will automatically assign you
to the appropriate Village.

Steps to access the program

Log into the MyPack Portal

Select For Student Header

Select Main Menu

Select Student Self Service

Select University Housing

Select Current Residents

Select HARP and follow the directions

To assist you in matching lifestyle responses, note that those
responses in red do not match your answers. If you do not have a
preferred roommate, please sign up in a room with someone else and leave
open rooms available for students with a roommate choice.
If room availability becomes limited before May 20, the Housing
Assignments Office will close the process and manually assign spaces as
they become available.

You may choose your room assignment on line during one of the following
time periods:

May 2 – 4 For Housing Applications received in
December 2010, January 2011 and February 2011
Option opens May 2 at 8 a.m. and closes May 4 at 5 p.m.

If not in any special “community” housing, I would say try for the towers (Carroll,Bowen,Metcalf) since Central campus is a great location.

I know that each floor in the tri-towers is made of 4 suites. Does each suite have a kitchen/lounge area or is there one common kitchen/lounge that all 4 suites share in the center?

Also, are the tri-towers mostly freshmen?

Knit…mom-

Just curious if your child successfully signed up for housing through the online system? My daughter did not receive the info that you posted, however she will attempt to follow the procedure come Monday.

SN, yes he was able to sign up with no problem. He was also able to indicate a roommate who he met on Facebook. Have your daughter check out the Facebook page for the Class of 2015 if she doesn’t want a random roommate. Many of the kids are connecting through this page.
For some reason the link wouldn’t post. I will try again. If that doesn’t work then have her go into Facebook and search NCSU Class of 2015. There are a couple of different groups. The one my son is a member of has over 1000 members.
