Can anyone tell me what the freshman are really like? Which one would current GW students recommend?

freshman (dorms)*

This year's freshmen had a choice on the Foggy Bottom Campus of Thurston Hall, Mitchell Hall, Hall on Virginia Ave., Fullbright and Lafayette. Lafayette houses the honors students and others. Thurston is the largest, about 1000 students live there and is very social. Mitchell is located near Thurston and has single rooms but common bathrooms and a 7-11 on the bottom floor there. There are also some dorms on the Mount Vernon Campus. Because of DC zoning laws, GW will not be able to house freshmen or sophomores in the Hall on Virginia Ave., after this year. It is not known what will happen with that building (a former Howard Johnson Hotel) after this school year. My daughter is living there now in a double room and really likes it. There will be a new dorm opening for freshmen in Sept. that will house about 150 students I believe.
If you attend an accepted student day or CI you will be able to tour all the dorms available for freshmen and even though you will receive a housing number when you send in your deposit, you don't have to make a final choice about which dorm you want to live in until after the last CI orientation session. Then GW will do the room and roommate assignments and make them available to you in early August. During CI (Colonial Inauguration orientation) you will most likely be housed in Thurston Hall and will be able to get a feel for that dorm while you are there.

i currently live in thurston. it has 9 floors with about 115 kids on each floor. rooms vary between 2-6 people per room and the amount of space per person varies. for instance, i am in a very large quad, but 2 doors down is a 4 person room that has significantly less space. overall, people consider the rooms to be spacious enough. every room has their own bathroom of the same size.

thurston kids are generall more social and wild than HOVA kids and thursday through saturday nights it is active until 3 or 4 in the morning. it is difficult to get work done there sometimes, but there is a study hall in the basement and the library is always there. as fa

as far as location go, its towards the end of campus, but it far from as inconvienient as HOVA. i dont know much about the other dorms email me (funkyfood@aol.com) if you have questions

Thanks to both of you. I am leaning towards Thurston and I think as an ED 1 acceptee I will get my first choice. So a 2 person room in Thurston would be nice.
