Does anyone know if freshman are traditionally tripled? When visiting last weekend most rooms in the dorm we toured
were traditional doubles but were tripled. Is there a dorm recommendation where you are least likely to be tripled?
My daughter doesn’t seem to mind, it’s the parents that thought it was a bit tight. 2 closets for 3 girls seems a bit rough. It also makes for 1/3 more kids sharing the bathrooms too.
I went to EA Candidate’s Weekend and saw the dorms too. The one they showed was a double room turned into a triple, and it did look pretty small. Many of them were like that, and I got the idea that you should expect a triple rather than a double. Its not a “traditional triple” either, which has more space for the extra person. I’m pretty sure a lot of the triples were forced.
For freshmen, the largest dorm on south campus (Stanford, 500 plus) is doubles. I believe they place people based on date of deposit (earlier deposits get doubles). If a student opts for a learning community, those are typically in specific dorms and many are triples.
as a freshman you don’t get a choice as to where you live nor how many roommates you have regardless of if you request only a one other person … I’m currently in a triple and my roommates requested eachother and expected to be in a double but I was thrown in with them … while the rooms are small, they’re big enough to be comfortable in and there are enough bathrooms that the student to bathroom ratio is more than sufficient
I’m living in a triple. It is somewhat cramped, but I have never had a problem with the bathrooms being crowded. Never had to wait for a shower, toilet, sink, etc. Its not ideal to share the space but it is definitely doable. You also get a price reduction for forced triples.
