What are some of the pros and cons of the different CMU dorms?
I applied ED 1, and I heard ED gets first pick.
I’m interested in Mudge, Henderson, and Res on Fifth.
Mostly curious about Henderson, 'cause I couldn’t find a lot of info about it online. I know it’s the wellness house, which is perfectly fine by me. How’s the social life? Are the rooms nice? Is it easy to get a prime double there as a first-year?
Also which options tend to be more/less expensive?
I’m a freshman, but don’t know anyone in Henderson.
Mudge is great. Large rooms, private bathrooms, kitchens, etc… I have a prime double that shares a bathroom w/ a single. The Quads are pretty massive though, so there’s not much to lose. The downsides are that the lounges are only in the central house, and it is pretty pricey.
Let’s be real though, everywhere on this campus is expensive. I believe Rez is expensive too.
I’m a freshman – live in Mudge. It’s awesome. The rooms are big, good study areas, private bathrooms. Res on Fifth is a bit further away than Mudge, but I have friends staying there who think it’s good. I got a prime double; and I applied RD. I’d say you have a good shot of getting one since you’re ED
@starshine0809 Does Mudge have heating? And for dorms that don’t have heating, would it be worth it to bring a space heater?
A dorm w/o heating? No way. More likely it doesn’t have A/C. But all old dorms have at least radiated heat.
@sundriedtomato , are you from China? One of my daughters taught English at a Chinese University about ten years ago and she commented about the lack of heating in most classrooms and dorms. That’s almost unheard of here. We’re too soft… ;->
^ Even w/o (adequate) heat, no space heaters would be allowed, is my bet, due to the fire hazard.
Speaking as a parent of a sophomore: space heaters are not allowed, but heat is more than adequate.
Some dorms are designated for the HSP and QSSS Program students in DC. Any idea which ones? TIA
