Freshman Dorms

Can any Freshman give me a quick run down on the Freshman dorms. Also, which has the best food choices for vgetarians. Thanks

Have you checked out any of the livejournal communities on NYU/NYU housing? I found tons of great information and pictures. Actually, I have already narrowed down my preferences. Yep, I get ahead of myself!

what have you narrowed your list down to?

Here are my choices (from greatest to least):

Hayden
Rubin
U-Hall
Brittany
Third North

Have you looked at any, yet?

Yeah, I've heart great things about Hayden, definitely one of my top choices..It's definitely more important for me to be in a more social dorm than a pretty one though.

*laff

Hayden is a joke. Take Uhall-3rdN-Brittany-Goddard-Rubin before Hayden.

Why do you say that, firewalker?

Well...for starters, I LIVE in Hayden, so don't be so quick to discount my opinion. Secondly, Hayden's rooms are garbage compared to Uhall and 3rd north's. Thirdly...the people here are straight up annoying.

what about weinstien?

I never had the intention of "discounting" your opinion. I already knew you lived in Hayden because I've seen several of your posts (which are always negative) about Hayden/the women and I've wondered why you hate it so much. ;)

Really, I'd like some more detailed examples. Saying that people are annoying is kinda vague. I mean, if annoying to you entails people stumbling back to their rooms drunk/obnoxious at 3am, you'd consider me annoying. ha. I just want to make sure I don't choose somewhere ****ty to live, that's all.

my brother goes to nyu and he attends stern.

he said that weinstein is the best dorm for stern students, although he didn't tell me why..

he was too busy studying for finals.

Weinstein is...an enigma. Surprisingly enough, it's the only freshman dorm where I haven't been able to see the rooms. I do know their walls are cinderblock and give off a "prison" feel, but judging by the pictures of kids living there...doesn't look TOO bad.

I have my reasons for disliking Hayden. Not exactly my crowd. And by annoying I mean alot of them are the ditzy (women), pretentious type. Alot have attitude problems (heads are in the clouds). Have you ever had naked guys walking around in the halls at 3AM? That's f ucking annoying. There aren't enough music junkies in Hayden...and by that I mean ones who are willing to start a band...I wish I picked Goddard because they have a music explorations floor. And there's tons of unnecessary drama.

(P.S...the whole rumor about Hayden girls being "easy"...I sure as hell haven't been able to capitalize on that yet. Which might be contributing towards my animus, just saying.)

u-hall and 3rd avenue north is the best but they're too expensive. but all the dorms in nyu are pretty good so pick whichever suits your boat. i dunno about rubin though since i hear they're havin some water/pest problems over there but it's hella cheap to live there =]

Can anyone put up some links? I can't find any communities on NYU housing anywhere on livejournal.

I live in Uhall and I love it. It's so nice to have a living room and a kitchen. It's also really nice for having friends over or parties because you can hang out in your common room without being stuck in your small room with your roommate. Plus if you're up late and want to study or something, you don't have to keep your roommate up. And the kitchen I love because it's just so convenient.

I've seen one room in Weinstein. Besides being a 'cinder-block cell', it's pretty nice. It's got decent space.

Hayden is social but isn't too great on the rooms, not like others. So if you want to be social and don't care about the rooms, then Hayden is a good choice.

It just really depends on what you're looking for in a room.

http://community.livejournal.com/nyuhousing/

It's pointless to decide on which dorm is best regarding how 'social' it is. Every year, each dorm has a new group of people living there so it's never going to be the same from year to year. Everyone has different things they like about each dorm.

I loved Weinstein my freshman year. Others hated it. Doesn't really matter that much where you live, honestly. Your happiness will depend largely on who you get for a roommate and who else lives on your floor.

"It's also really nice for having friends over or parties because you can hang out in your common room without being stuck in your small room with your roommate."

Yes.

"Plus if you're up late and want to study or something, you don't have to keep your roommate up."

Yes.

It doesnt matter where you live. It matters who you live with. In the end, the dorms are the same.. The only thing you should be considering is whether you want a kitchen or not as well as what kind of rooms you want. and distance from class

About Uhall. What is the set up? How many people are in one suite? How many to a room? How many bathrooms? Do you know if any suites are Vegitarian?

There are no vegitarian suits. 4 people in each suit. The rooms are essentially the same size/layout. In the middle there is a common room, on either side of the common room there are two small rooms, both approx the same size, one is the bathroom, the other is the kitchen. Then you have two bedrooms, both small compared to traditional dorms, but the common room makes up for the size and you end up having around the same space per person as if you had a traditional dorm. In regard to dining, you are very close to palladium which is a great dining hall, but far from kimmel which is the best.
