<p>Does anyone have an idea of what the freshman engineering retention rate is at Miami? What percentage of engineering students don't make it to the beginning of their sophomore year? Any help or insight would be appreciated.</p>

<p>You want to compare the freshmen 2008/2009 engineering stats to the sophmore 2009/2010 engineering stats.</p>

<p>In 2008/2009 there were 5 freshmen Chemical Engineers. In 2009/2010 that dropped down to 3 sophmore Chemical Engineers.</p>
<p>Thank you StitchInTime. Unfortunately the above stats do not account for transfers into the program. I have written (email) MU to ask about their freshman engineering rates along with 4,5, and 6 year engineering graduation rates. I will post the results when (if) I hear back from them.</p>
<p>I don’t think these stats are accurate. There were apparently no seniors in one of my majors in Fall 2009… but 10 of us just graduated with that major.</p>
<p>Edit: maybe it only tracks students’ primary majors?</p>

<p>For the Oxford campus the ChemE delta would be 27 in 2008/2009 to 33 in 2009/2010…As [url=<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1064903815-post3.html]noted[/url”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1064903815-post3.html]noted[/url</a>], this may the due to transfers from other campuses or from other schools.</p>
<p>The engineering school’s dean’s office, in specific, would probably have the stats your looking for.</p>

<p>Thanks for your question about Miami’s engineering and computing programs. We typically retain ~ 80% of our students after their first year in engineering/computing majors at our main Oxford campus. For most it is a matter of finding a major that interests them more for their career goals; we don’t want any student to feel forced out of our majors, though a few simply can’t handle the rigor. We will lose a few more students to the same type of issues by the third year, thus retention from year 1 to 3 is about 70%.</p>
<p>Of all students who start a SEAS major in a given academic year, the typical graduation rates in SEAS majors are:</p>
<p>4 year – 35%</p>
<p>5 year – 50%</p>
<p>6 year – 60% </p>
<p>Please keep in mind when comparing these and other schools’ statistics that numbers can be made to look many different ways. For example, we graduate (within 6 years) ~ 90% of those students that we retain past the first year, which is noticeably different than the 60% of all students who start day 1 in a SEAS major. This is why I try to define what I’m presenting to you. </p>
