Freshman experience at VT

My freshman daughter has loved her first month at Virginia Tech. My kid, along with many others here, had a horrible senior year of high school. It’s not surprise the kids are having fun at games, concerts, etc. With 98% of the students vaccinated and 1% positivity rate for Covid, they finally feel like things are “back to normal”. Thank god this is the case. She loves her professors and is looking forward to the beautiful fall colors to arrive in Blacksburg. I haven’t heard of “meanness” as you stated. We just got back from parents weekend and saw thousands of smiling faces on the campus.

Wait until the wind tunnel effect on the Drillfield comes right behind those fall colors! Bundle up! :grinning:

My daughter was just telling me today that campus has gotten even more beautiful over the past couple of weeks. I won’t mention the drillfield wind tunnel but will low key look for a warmer winter coat

@CollegeNerd67 Be sure that she’s got decent waterproof boots of some sort and ditto on a rain jacket/shell. With the wind comes rain at uncomfortable angles! Worth it though - the next 3 weeks are amazing for the foliage.

Just starting to see a few leaves drop and some color change. When my son was younger he called this ‘jacket-losing weather’ because it’s chilly in the morning and beautiful by afternoon. Parka length coats are good when winter gets here, especially a waterproof material that will deflect the wind. Enjoy!

The challenge will be getting her to wear something that has function over fashion. She’ll learn quickly on the first cold/windy/rainy day

@GKUnion I’m curious why you say the admissions department is a train wreck the last few years? My son just applied for 2023 admission.
