Freshman fall quarter schedule advice

Hey guys, I just registered for classes at the orientation a few days ago and here are my classes (my intended major is statistics):

MAT21C
PHI001
AHI00DV (Arts of Asia)

Total of 13 units

Is this a reasonable course load? MAT21C kind of scares me… I got a 5 on my AB CALC exam junior year and am currently taking a 21B equivalent at a community college. The thing is that I’m worried if I’d be overwhelmed with 21C; and it seems like many other freshmen opted for A instead. 21A had no more open seats when I registered and I can’t register for 21B since I’m taking it at a CC (Davis doesn’t allow earning duplicate credits when it comes to CC courses I believe). I couldn’t get in depth advising for stats major b/c I attended the orientation of biological sciences (I decided to change my major after taking a stats class in senior year).

My orientation leader told me it was fine to take 21C and that the other two classes will balance it out. The art history & philo classes are interesting to me but I most likely shouldn’t underestimate them…especially since I’m an incoming freshman.

Could anyone give me some advice or comment on my schedule? Would it be a good idea to take 21A instead?

Taking 13 units freshman year is fine, and completely doable. With art history and philosophy classes, the worst you’d have to do in them is write papers, but usually the papers aren’t long. Other freshmen are taking 21A because they placed into the class via the math placement exam. If you’re taking the 21B equivalent at community college, then it makes no sense to go back to 21A because you’d already know the material covered in that class anyway.

21C was the most difficult class I have taken in my entire life. I was dealing with a lot of medical issues that quarter, though.

Don’t worry too much. Your other two classes should be extremely easy, so you can focus on math.

I think you’ll be totally fine. Taking 21C with those other 2 classes has to be about the easiest way you can take 21C! I took what is 21C+21D at my community college along with Physics 9C at the same time, that was a looong semester lol.
