Hey, so I read elsewhere that Stanford is going to start looking at applicants' 9th grade gpas after 2012. Now, this would kind of suck for me, because it would pull my gpa from a nice 3.94 to a 3.6 or so... I'm trying to find out whether this is true or not. I saw on the Stanford website where they say that they disregard 9th grade, but I couldn't find anything about the supposed upcoming changes. Anyone know where to get more info about what they'll do next year?

Regardless of whether they intend to actually recalculate your GPA and class rank and all of that, admissions counselors are human. Not everyone matures in the summer between middle and high school, they know that. If you mess up freshman year and get your * together pretty fast after that, they’re not going to penalize you for having acted like a kid when you were still a kid. You just have to demonstrate that you’ve significantly improved and are continuing to do so, and for all intensive purposes they will forgive your freshman grades. That doesn’t mean you’ll get in, but at least you’ll get in the front door.
