Freshman GPA

Does carnegie mellon look at freshman grades/gpa?

if i knew what you were talking bout I would answer

I didnt think it was so hard to understand, but does carnegie mellon look at a prospective student's high school freshman year grades during the admission process?

Yes, they do!

you bet ya

Almost every school does.

My other prospective school, Princeton, doesnt so I was simply wondering. I'm sure they weight junior/senior grades more than 9/10?

obviously junior and senior year grades will better represent you as a student, but freshman grades will not be completely ignored by any school, i would think.

Stanford just asks for 10-12 grades and involvement.

dont know how accurate this is but....

"Johns Hopkins, as well as the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Carnegie Mellon, also throws out all freshman-year marks."

Very interesting... I cross-posted in the cmu rep thread. Hopefully we can clear this up.

Any current junior or senior in ECE or CS can tell the average GPA for these two majors?

Thanks.

That sucks. I made a huge effort my freshman year to get great grades so I could stand out from the other applicants who slacked off their freshman year. I guess all that work was for nothing.....

I don't know anything for sure about how CMU looks at freshman grades, but no matter what, they probably had a part to play in your class rank, which all schools look at. So don't feel like it was a waste.

We dont have class rank at my school (way too competitive as it is).

princeton10, some schools do look:) (or :( for some)
