I’ve read on different posts here on CC that colleges like Princeton and Dartmouth don’t take freshman grades into consideration. Does anyone know what Amherst’s policy is on freshman grades? Is the cumulative GPA more important than each year’s specific grades?

Thank you!

I believe that they look at all 4 years of high school (my son was admitted ED and that was our understanding). i think that almost every college looks at all 4 years, although some look a bit 'harder" at 10th and 11th grade, since the courses tend to be harder than the 9th grade ones. Also, they do respect improvement (ie the student who may have a few A minuses or B’s in 9th gr but then all A’s in 10th and 11th–that is better than all A’s in 9th and then a few B’s in 10th and 11th, because in the latter case the college wonders if you may keep slipping further down). However, they do look at all four yrs.
