Hi! I got a 4 on the AP Chemistry exam and I want to take Freshman Honors. Does anyone have any experience? How do people do? How do people work in lab 354 for premed? Thanks!

The professor has changed since I took it, but I don’t remember it being too hard. It was fun and we covered some additional topics in more depth. If there was a curve, it was easier than the normal gen chem II curve. I had a 5 on the IB HL Chem exam (equivalent to a 4 on the AP) and I got an A.

I took the 356 lab spring of my sophomore year while I was taking biochemistry, which doesn’t have a corresponding lab. A lot of people taking freshman honors chemistry sign up for freshman chemistry research their first semester.

Our S just finished his freshman year and came into W&M with a 4 on this AP Chem exam like you. I asked him about your question.

He took fresh Chem honors and tells me it is definitely worth the rigor. You learn alot and it is tough. (it may have been tougher for him because his prof is also a bio-chem prof and her class seemed to have a slant that way.S does not particularly care for bio.)
He had to put in a lot of study time but ended up with a good grade and he is statisfied.
He also tells me you will know in the 1st 2 weeks if it is a class you want to continue.
He did not take the lab you mentioned.
All the best for Freshman year:)
