Freshman Housing -- Goddard Hall

Hi Everyone!

So I was recently notified that I was accepted into Goddard Hall for my freshman year. However, I did some more research and found out that a lot of people say Goddard is full of eccentric people and somewhat “cult-like.” Now I’m pretty worried about not being able to attend parties and have a normal social life at NYU. For those of you who had experiences with NYU’s housing, how was it like?

I also applied for Brittany Hall’s “Big Apple Big Screen” for my second choice, and I am wondering if there is any chance I could transfer there. What was the experience like living in Brittany?

I guess the dorm experience I was expecting was a sense of community, but not too restricted with the people in my dorm. I also wouldn’t want to be a nerd and have no social life during my first year. I know this is difficult, but what should I do?

Hey @JadeiteD - so I’m just a parent and you know we don’t hear everything that happens at college  but my D was in Brittany and she loved it but said it was one of the less social dorms. Sounds like you’d like to be in 3rd North. Goddard has a great location and honestly, at NYU social life does not revolve solely around your dorm so I think you’ll be fine. Goddard does have the residential college for citizen engagement so I’m thinking that’s what is being referred to as cult-like. If you don’t want that I would call NYU housing and see if there are other dorms you can still get into.
