What percentage of freshman wind up in triples?

My ds applied to both Honors and Global Scholars. I believe those students receive special housing and would assume that they are in doubles?? However, I know those programs are selective in terms of acceptance, so I am also wondering about housing for students not in special programs.

I believe that Honors and Global Scholars students will be in Hughes Hall (floors 2 thru 5), which is on the North side of campus (the quieter side). Very convenient location. Floors 6 & 7 will be for upperclassmen. In the past, Honors students (just like all other AU freshman) could be tripled (in a double room), based on the date they made their enrollment deposit. Two years ago my son made his deposit around April 15th and fortunately he got a double, but if he had waited an extra week or two, he could have possibly been tripled. If your son does get tripled, AU makes every effort to de-triple the room as soon as possible (no later than the end of the first semester, but sometimes much earlier). Many students who get tripled end up keeping their threesome since they don’t want to break up the roommate group.

when i went on a dorm tour te student at AU told me that they kmight at first put u in a triple but as soon as a space opens up they will move you. she said tripes were rare. hope that helps:)

@LR4150 - thanks! I didn’t not realize that those in special programs could also get tripled. Although this year there will only be 45 accepted to Honors - something like that?? I would think it would be a perk for being in a special program! Way ahead of myself and NOT trying to be presumptive - still waiting on the RD result! It’s also good to know about the timing of when he would need to get a deposit in.

@heycall123 - we were told that on our tour as well. We were actually shown a triple on our tour - sure seemed “tight.” We were also told they try to untriple them ASAP. Rare would be good!

My daughter, now a junior, was in a triple in Honors and received a phone call the summer before freshman year asking her if she wanted to de-triple. The key is to deposit early. My daughter did not commit until April 30.

Several of my D’s friends in honors were tripled (seniors now). Many of them de-tripled but some chose to stay tripled all year because they became good friends. It’s tight but do-able. And, yes, the sooner you put down the deposit, the better your odds of getting a double. Now that there is a new dorm, I’m hoping that there are less triples than a few years ago.
