Freshman Housing: Stetson West or International Village?

To all NU students, as well as those who attended the EA welcome day last friday, which would you recomend? Stetson West (Bouve LLC) or International Village (Global Frontiers LLC, not honors, unfortunately :( )?

I am a pharm major, so to all current students, do you know any pharm majors participating in (or who have participated in) the Global Frontiers LLC (international themed housing). I heard positive things about IV and how it has private bathrooms, less crowded, etc., and since I'm the type of person who needs a lot of peace and quiet (not too much, but enough to get a significant amount of studying done), I think the IV may suit my needs more. Also, I tend to gravitate more closely to people who were raised internationally than locally, in the States (I was raised internationally but born in the States). I don't know why, but it could be because of the culture that they embody in general.

The only con I have about IV is that I don't know if there would be any pharm person dorming in the Global Frontiers LLC,, I know for sure that there are potential pharm majors that will be dorming in the honors housing (which is basically supposed to be in the IV too), but I'm worried that I wouldn't be able to visit people there because I belong to a 'different housing'. Also, I think it would be a whole lot more convenient if there was a pharm major in the same LLC as me.

Also, is the IV building far from where first year classes usually are? I don't know if the classes are held in the Behrakis Health Science Center or the main campus (basically the part of the campus that is closer to Stetson West; the middle of the campus).

If anyone could reply, it would really help :D
Oh yeah, feel free to add any experiences you've had in these dorms.

I just want to say that I don’t have any experience in Stetson West, but I do believe they have like concrete walls over there. The walls here in IV are pretty paper-thin. Just something to consider if you want peace and quiet.

To blinkangel44: Are you in honors or Global LLC? And,is the IV crowded? What facilities do you guys have in IV? (Actually, I just talked to an admission representative and he said that there is no guarantee that the Global Frontiers LLC will end up in IV for next fall, so I have to think about it.)

I’m a freshman honors student. I wouldn’t say IV is crowded. Lots of honors kids ended up with singles who did not request them (to my knowledge). Some non-handicapped students even got handicapped room singles (which are bigger and have a tub in the bathroom).

We have 3 laundry rooms (all with vending machines), a workout area (with machines and weights… soooo convenient. Not looking forward to having to walk to Marino next year haha), and a dining hall. And some classrooms are located in the basement.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Well, I’ve also been reading from discussion boards that there’s a possibility that the Global Frontiers LLC (international housing) won’t be in International Village next year. Do you know if that would be true?

Anything’s possible, so I really don’t know. Perhaps you could ask sometime in May or whenever they start asking you about housing preferences. They may have a better idea about it by then (but then again, perhaps they don’t tell people those things so that not everyone chooses an LLC just to live in a particular dorm).

Actually, I already submitted my application and they indicated that the Global Frontiers LLC will be in the International Village, so I ended up picking that as my first choice. The idea of study groups in the Bouve LLC was very enticing, but since IV is open during the winter break (big thing because I’m out of the country), I decided it was better, especially since it’ll save the outrageous price of the round trip ticket to go home.

Freshman have to leave during winter break anyway, so… IV is “open” because of the upperclassmen, not because of the freshmen. It’s required.

But I’m pretty sure freshmen were allowed to stay during winter break… I think I remember my RA sendin us an e-mail that said she had to know if we were planning on staying. I think it’s because of the international freshmen. And I think the dining hall stayed open too.

Well, in the housing application, there was a question that asked me if I wanted to stay in-campus during winter break and I picked that I wanted to.

The reason why I’m asking is because I’ll be coming all the way from Western Canada, and a round trip ticket will cost $1000 (at the very least). So staying in campus will definitely help.

[Residential Life > Policies > Intersession](http://www.northeastern.edu/reslife/policies/intersession.html)

The dining hall would still be open because not just freshmen eat there- just like the Stetsons.

For some reason I thought IV was the only dining hall open for winter break, but I could very certainly be mistaken-- you’d definitely know better than I would!

I do know for a fact that the IV dining hall is closed this week for spring break and only Stetson East is open.

Actually, I e-mailed the housing and residential life department and this is what they said:
“The International Village will be open during the Winter intersession, which will not require residents of that building to leave.”

I also indicated that I was an incoming freshman btw.

IV=private bathrooms, bigger rooms, more expensive

I’ve heard the walls of IV are really thin… Blink is that true? I hate hearing every single word of the conversation next door when I’m trying to sleep.

Yep, very true. I don’t have much to compare it to, but I can easily hear my suitemates when I’m in the bathroom and when my room is quiet. Although it hasn’t been too much of an issue. I haven’t been kept up at night until they decided to have a bunch of people over and play super loud music and YouTube vids at 2 or 3 AM the night before I was waking up at 6 to get in line for Obama…

Oh, would that be too much of a problem? Do you know if IV has quiet floors?

i don’t think IV has quiet floors but my floor is pretty quiet unless some freshman from the north side come and play pool till 1 am.

It isn’t too big a deal, I was just curious. Like I said, WVF is paper thin, but it’s only a big deal when my roommates play video games until 3 am so loudly you can hear it down two hallways and I have to wake up for work at 6 am. I just always heard that the Stetsons can be somewhat quieter because of the old walls; although I also heard the garbage trucks wake everyone up in the morning, so…
