JMU is my first choice for the 2012 Fall Semester and I was wondering if any past/present JMU students could tell me about the freshman living situation! I am definately planning on decorating my dorm room a lot, so what kinds of things are good to bring? Can you hang tapestries or string lights on the walls? What about curtains on the windows?

Anything you can tell me about dorm living would be very helpful; I want to hear stories from actual students, not the website! I have been to JMU and did a tour, but the "demo dorm" wasn't very helpful, especially since I would not prefer to live in a suite like the one they showed us.

Kitty-My son is a JMU senior this year, and lived in the Bluestone dorms 1st year Gifford, and 2nd year Logan, before moving off campus. The Bluestone dorms, in my opinion, are very nice. The rooms he was in were two bedrooms, 2 students per room, with a bathroom shared by the 4 students connecting the bedrooms. Also had AC. Being a boy, he didn’t do much decorating, but I saw some of the girls rooms, and they really did a lot. Curtains, wall Art, seems like they can do what they like. You cannot make holes in the walls, with hanging things, or you will pay a fee when you move out.

Have you looked into Freshman Learning Communities?
