I would really be interested in comments on freshman housing. Which dorms are recommended and which should one stay away from and why? Thanks!

well im a current freshman and i live in means hall
all freshman housing at emory is not spectacular but here is the rundown
means-decent sized rooms located close to the DUC (cafeteria) and a two second walk to dooleys (cafe)

dobbs- small rooms but centrally located right across from the Duc and Woodpec (gym)

Alabama-large rooms, centrally located but isolated from the rest of the freshman dorms

Complex- 3 dorms away from all of the other freshman dorms and right across the street from the library

Mctieyre (sp?)- large rooms, centrally located, top of frat row

Trimble- decent sized rooms, centrally located near dooleys (access to means volleyball court)

Longstreet- small rooms, disgusting dorm (lived there for two summers)

Lstreet, trimble, and means all circle a courtyard that has grills and a volleyball court.

these are general descriptions i say avoid lstreet

I appreciate it man thanks a lot. I have a friend that is living in Turman? He seems to be enjoying that but liike if u had ur choice of dorms again, would you live in Means again or is there another dorm that you feel is the consensus best dorm to live in???

My son is a junior at Emory. His freshman year he lived in Trimble and loved it--the rooms are relatively large and the location is great. He liked the fact that the dorm had only about 80 students, about 40 / floor, which was about 10 rooms of men and 10 rooms of women on each floor (separate bathroom facilities for each sex on each floor). His floor --actually, the whole dorm--was very close and they did a lot together.

Sophomore year he lived in an apartment at Turman with 3 close friends and he liked that too. But I don't think freshmen are eligible to live in the Turman apartment-style dorms--I think there are a couple of more traditional style dorms at Turman for freshmen.

Don't worry too much about what dorm you get. Within a month, each person thinks he is in the best dorm. All of the dorms have good people, which is the most important thing. And all of the dorms have good locations. Because the campus is so compact, you can get from one end to the other in less than a 10 minute walk.

turman is far away from the other dorms, so while im sure the turman residents become very close because they are isolated from the rest of the freshmen, at the same time it's a pain to go visit your friends in turman and visa versa, so you don't see them as much...

i would suggest living in either mctyeire, dobbs or alabama as those 3 dorms are in the center of campus, but really, what dorm you live in isn't too big of a deal unless you are interested in living in a single sex dorm.

You really can't choose what dorm you get, though if you request a three person dorm you usually end up in Alabama, which is the nicest dorm in my opinion. I live in Turman, which is a long walk from campus, but has its perks too.

i live in longstreet, and honestly, it isn't that bad. it does smell badly a lot of the time, but the people are great, the rooms are bigger than dobbs, and the location is one of the best. i was worried about living here at first because of all the things people said about it, but it truly is not the worst dorm you could live in.
