Freshman Housing

I'm really confused over which housing to choose. I heard the village is where there is a lot going on and it's suite style so you'll be able to meet more people but the down side is there isn't an air conditioning. I've also heard buildings like skyline are nice and have air conditioning but there isn't as much going on there. A lot of people have mentioned the east campus and the quad relative to housing at JMU but I don't know what those are. I just want to be in a nice dorm where I have the most opportunities to meet people and have fun and be conveniently located on campus with a lot going on. So AC isn't my main concern because it's not gonna be hot for long anyways and I could bring a fan. It'll be annoying but if I'm happy where I'm living and around more cool people then it's worth it. But it'd be awesome if I could have both.

Centrally located: Village, Bluestone, Hillside and Lakeside (in order). Skyline is the “other / new” side where you probably started a campus tour. There are pros / cons to all locations and in the end you get to request your preference, but are not guaranteed your 1, 2, 3rd choice. For example, Village is central, suites are nice, but you actually may meet fewer people since it is not a traditional hall style where you can walk down and see bunches of open doors. Skyline might be a little less central to the “main” side, but if you are a Biology major, for example, both 4 out of 5 of your classes will be on that side, not the “main side”. To walk from one area to another is only like 15 minutes… So, I would recommend going to JMUs site and search on residence halls. Read what they say, look at layouts and pick what you like the best and hope you get your 1st choice.

BTW - East campus is the “new” section on the other side of interstate where you started a campus tour. At least this and the above are my understanding after looking at the website and my son talking to friends there.
