Freshman Housing

Hi!
I am a senior in high school and I am considering Tulane. I just have a a questions about housing. Is it possible for non-honors students to room in Butler? I think Butler would be an environment I would enjoy more than a typical freshman dorm.
Thanks

Whoops, just saw that non-honors kids can room in Butler. That being said, do most of the non-honors students who want to live in Butler get to, or is it a “luck of the draw” system?

I can’t say with 100% certainty, but I have a strong educated opinion that most non-honors get Butler if they want it. A lot of the honors students want Monroe or Sharp for the “typical freshman experience”. Funny world, isn’t it? Then others want Wall (and maybe now Greenbaum) because of the suite style rooms/baths. So that opens up space in Butler that might not otherwise be there.

One way to improve your chances is to find a person that wants to room with you (and of course vice versa) that is an honors student that wants to live in Butler, Then you can request each other as roommates and put Butler as your #1 choice on each of your applications and the odds are very high that you will get it.

@fallenchemist‌ thanks!

Go visit the dorms, Butler is old and small but some people like that kind of atmosphere. Honors students are throughout the dorms. Best to visit (online and in person) to see which one(s) you would want to apply for in May.

Also I will say the general opinion is everyone loves where they end up anyway - if that helps.

Seconding that. I would say that is 98% accurate. Even if one ends up in a “noisier” dorm, there are so many quiet, lovely places to study on campus or even nearby like Audubon Park. In my experience, getting a decent roommate makes more difference than what dorm you are in. Doesn’t even matter if you become friends, if it is at least neutral then things are usually great. It is when you get the roommate from hell that the college experience can be severely compromised.
