Freshman Housing??

Hi! I am a newly enrolled freshman and I am overwhelmed with the freshman housing options…

Hastings Hall
Kerr Hall
Light Hall
Melvin Hall
Smith Hall
Speare Hall
Stetson East
Stetson West
White Hall

If anyone could tell me pro’s and con’s of each hall or what they think is the best one? Also are there any residence halls that should be avoided at all cost? And lastly in which dorm are the College of Science and Pre-Health LLC’s located?
(Also I’m a psychology major so I don’t know if that makes any difference in proximity to where most my classes would be for certain dorms.)

Also I notice there is an option for “economy” rooms. Are these just much smaller rooms?

You don’t get to choose your hall. The LLC’s change location each year so there is no way to predict which LLC will be where. Choose the LLC you like best, each different hall has pros and cons.

Hi! Do all freshmen pick an LLC and Fusion if they want a more general dorm or are there non LLC dorms? If you are in honors, do you have to go to the honors dorm even if you are interested in one of the other LLCs? I know the LLC’s change dorms each year but does any one know where the living green typically is as it says it is in a certified LEED building?

@hopefully16 All the freshman residence halls contain some sort of LLC. In regards to the honors question (I assume that means you were accepted into the honors program?) you will automatically be assigned to live in International Village - the Honors LLC basically takes precedence over the other ones.

@hopefully16 if you are admitted to the Honors program, you must live in IV to be accept that offer. If you choose to live elsewhere, you also forfeit your membership in the Honors program. Kind of messed up imo because it’s the most expensive housing for freshman and I don’t like that they make you to pay to play, but it is what it is. For what it’s worth, it’s far and away the best freshman dorm; in building dining hall with significantly more variety and options imo than the others (more than just burgers, pizza, and a sad salad bar like every other college dining hall), small in building gym like you might find in a hotel, AC in dorms, semi-private bathrooms (shared with your roommate and suitemates- 1-3 others). I also really liked being with all the honors students, and almost all of my friends are from my floor in IV. I also didn’t feel like I missed out on the “LLC experience”- because the building is so big, there are RA programs almost daily in all sorts of topics.

As far as non-LLC, you’re right that there’s no opt-out choice. However, if you want to live with people of varied interests, Fusion would be your choice. This year, Living Green is Light Hall. I have no idea how hard it is to get an LEED certification, but Light is an old building and I can’t imagine it passes any high level sustainability/efficiency thresholds. It is always subject to change.

Does anyone know when you pay the housing deposit? I’ve submitted my application and it hasn’t asked for a deposit yet.
