What are the best dorms for freshman - class of 2024
The best dorm really depends on you and your time at USC. USC has something called living learning communities that are usually based on interest and major. If you’re a nursing major, you might want to look at living in the nursing community (Patterson Hall).
The best dorm in terms of quality and location is Preston Residential College (IMO) followed by Patterson Hall. These are both suite style (two people sharing a bathroom with two other people).
The next nicest are probably the quads (East, South, and Green quad). These are relatively new apartment styles where the student gets their own room and a in-house kitchen and common area.

Best of luck deciding!
I am currently on the USC Parents’ page (I have a sophomore) and it seems like the kids that struggle the most are the ones in the Quad or apartment-style dorms (Park Place, etc.) My daughter was in boarding school for three years prior to attending USC and saying that she was over dorm life is a huge understatement. But still, she knew that she’d meet more people in a traditional dorm vs. being isolated in her own room. The “apartment style” or “quads” don’t leave their doors open like the other dorms do and it seems like the kids don’t mingle. Every time I read about a kid struggling, it seems like they’re in one of these more isolating dorms. Just food for thought. Mine was in Capstone which is super social and she loved it. She moved to an off-campus apartment this year and it was a huge adjustment–she had gotten so used to everyone hanging out together and socializing and it is not like that in the apartments!!!
@g8rmomk8ans I agree. I have heard that the apt style housing in most schools is like that and I really dont want my son living in that type of housing freshman year. I remember going to school and what fun the traditional style of dorms are. I even lived all girls and it was great cause all the guys would come to our dorm to hang out. It seems like South Carolina has more apartment or quad style than the traditional or suite style. My friends son is in McBride which is all boys and not the nicest but he has had a great year so far and met alot of friends through his dorm
