I’m planning on attending some parties but I want to avoid “the freshman crawl”. Where do most people party? I’ve heard that after the first few weeks, the frats get boring and people typically just have their own parties w/ friends?

Going to frat parties is probably the most common thing that freshman do, especially during the first few months of school. However, as time goes on and you get to know more and more people, you do end up going to parties with friends at different colleges or at apartments, etc. I don’t really enjoy going to the frat parties so I just end up at different colleges or just staying on campus and I’ve had a blast so far.

Towards the beginning of the fall semester there are a whole bunch of huge social events such as scarlet fever and SPLASH that were pretty fun and they’re a good place for freshman to meet. You’ll hear about those things when the time comes.

Honestly a group of friends getting drunk is funner than frats, in my experience. Hookah lounges are pretty swell too if you’re into that kinda thing (I am). Going downtown drunk is fun too.

The parties are meh, if you’re a guy, good luck getting in. You’re going to need monies. I’m a girl, so most of the time I can get in but sometimes they’re just too full. But if you get there late there’s hardly any alcohol left and everyone’s gross and wasted already. So yeah, not my kind of scene.

I’ve been to a handful of parties in apartments, and they’re kinda like frats, just meh.

Thanks for answering my question, electrichapel & blade! Very insightful answers.

Also, I’m going to major in comp sci but I was wondering if it’s possible to minor or dual in computer engineering? Is it common for people to undertake both comp sci and comp eng even though both majors are in different schools? Actually… is it even possible?

Hey man if that’s what you want to do then go for it! Talk to the advisors if/when you attend orientation and they can better answer that question for you. And if it’s possible, I wouldn’t really know. Engineering is pretty intensive at BU so I don’t know many people double majoring yet…I know some minors but those are usually for like a language or liberal arts minor. I only know one guy who’s double majoring I think in EE and CS, but that’s different.

Hello. I applied to the BU - Biomedical Engineering program. I also selected that if I do not get into the school, I would like to be considered for the school of general studies. My question is, if I do not get into the program, can I still be selected for the College of Engineering as a whole and select a particular major aside from biomedical? The common app didn’t ask for another interest in major so I am kind of worried. I realize how prestigious the program is and I’m curious to know where I stand…
If it helps, my ACT is 32, 3.6UW GPA and top 10% in class… I posted about this in college chances if you need more info… Thanks in advance.

@smokinact, From what I remember, I applied to Penn State, UMaryland - College Park, GWU, Rutgers, Syracuse, Drexel, Northeastern, NYU, Binghampon, UPitt and a few more.

@Ironfist, Your stats are very good so you have a good chance. You can always apply to the College of Engineering as an undeclared major if you think that will ameliorate your chances. But usually when you apply to BU, your admission is based on the major that you choose, so the choice is up to you but I do believe you have a good chance. Good luck!
