Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs)

i was thinking of joining a FIG since it would be easier to enroll in classes of high-demand. when can i register for a FIG? can i register during my A&0 session? does everyone who join a FIG need to stay at Lander? I'm international and my first priority would be at Stevens Court since they provide winter housing, not Lander. my main objective is to get certain classes hahah.

can anyone enlighten me about FIGs? thank you in advance!!

Technically, you can register for your classes (or FIGs) now if you wanted to. You just need to know how to do it, since you register off the MyUW site. It might be a little confusing doing it yourself, so I recommend you doing it at registration. There will be advisors and orientation leaders to help you there. Secondly, you don’t HAVE to stay at Lander if you’re in an FIG. You only have to stay in Lander if you want to join a residential FIG (not really sure what the difference is, so look into it). I know this about Lander because I joined an FIG at my orientation. They’ll explain FIG’s at orientation, so you don’t need to worry about it. As long as your orientation isn’t too late into the summer, you should be able to get the classes you want. If you have any other questions, ask away.

When I look at my status page on myUW account, it says that I can register for classes anytime on July 21st or after. and I have A&O on 20th and 21st of July.
I think it’ll be easier to just sign up for FIGs at A&O since there are advisers there
to help you out. I asked my college friends and most of them said that FIGS are a waste of time, but I think it’s personal preference. I think FIGs are a good way to get to the campus
and professors. and that might help since you are an international student. It’ll help you
faster to adapt to the campus better?

Hope this helped (:

Enghe is wrong. You can’t register until the second day of your A&O. However, you can register at 6:00am on the day of your A&O, which is probably a better idea than waiting until your registration session. Keep an eye on the time schedule until then.
