I know it is hard to land one, but anyone successful? Would it be worthwhile taking extra classes or doing some work over the summer?

I just landed one, I figure it'll be worthwhile, the name on my resume should help when I try to pursue an internship either next summer or during the school year.

Yeah i have one at huge bb subsidiary and it is gonna b great experience, all you really need to do is have a good personality for the interview and a superior gpa, i had a 4. Also if you know anyone high up in a company ask them for some help, I just cold called some places and at others i had some hook ups, but i chose the offer that i originally cold called. I think extra summer classes would get in the way of the internship.

It's all luck and ambition. You should be able to get one.

it;s a little late to start tho. i start my search in Feb.

some summer internships have deadlines in October/November

isnt getting a freshman internship a little overboard? i thought that most people considered having one after sophmore year being very ahead of the game.

What are you guys getting paid?

Newedition: there is no such thing as going overboard, if you want to be overpaid.....haha

considering most people would agree that i-banking is one of the hardest industries to break into, a little interning never hurts. especially for me because I dont have any real work experience, so it'll be good for my resume if I ever wanna apply to work elsewhere during the school year and whatnot.

as for getting paid -- you shouldn't expect to be paid for freshmen year, if you do, consider yourself lucky. i'm getting college credit for my internship.

For once I agree with dcfca on this topic....their is hope afterall...lmao

Not getting paid would suck.

yeah. i'm gonna try to see if I can get GPA pts to go with the credit. even then though they only ask that i put in 8 hrs a week, so it's no biggy.

Hey Mahras: I know your a high school sophmoe like me, but are you interning anywhere/? and are they paying you? and what do you do?

I am a junior. Yes I am currently interning at a trading firm here in the city. Yes they do pay me (15/hr). Basically I used to go to different classes they held for their traders (options pricing, market making, poker etc). Now its just doing any excel work that they may have for me.

man you are lucky....

Luck was a factor yes.

it would be soooooo awesome if I could land one of these internships..I am actually going to pray tonight. lmao

UBS - no pay, but definitely worth it. No wal-mart this summer!

How do u get an internship as a high school student? Just call 'em up and ask if they might be interested?

its really hard, most of the time they just ignore you. connections help
