Freshman Internships? RESUME Builders?

I've seen threads similar to this one, but none seem to give any helpful answers.

As a prospective member of the financial services industry, what can a FRESHMAN do to better his or her resume? I'm currently a freshman at MSB at Georgetown and am looking for any summer internship (preferably paid, but don't care that much) with a bank, or just any firm that can help set me on track. After this semester, my relevant coursework will have been: microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial acct, managerial acct, business stat, international business, and calc I and II. My GPA first semester was 3.9. Do I have a chance to do something meaningful?

I'd appreciate any advice. I don't expect to work at a prestigious bank, but I want to be productive and move towards my goals this summer.

Check out your school's career center. I think you're fine. Or worst case, you work at a summer camp

I'm looking for a legal internship, but most law firms want seniors or 1Ls for internships. Ugh.

I found a listing for legal assistant, whatever that means, I'm in the process of applying. Except I have writer's block and can't think of anything to write on my cover letter lol

join some organizations on campus and get to know people that can help you get an internship. be more involved.

Dear HR manager,

I'm interested in one of the jobs you posed on the NYU career center job board. Hire me. I'm a student at NYU and I'm interested in working for Lawyer & Attorney LLP because X, Y and Z.

You should hire me because A, B, and C. I will contact you within a couple weeks' time to follow up.

Thanks.

Dear futurenyustudent,

No.

Bye.

HR manager, Lawyer & Attorney, LLP

Dear HR manager,

cries

This is what I'm afraid of.

futurenyustudent, well at least in that case they took the time to write back! Most don't even do that. And this is something to be expected when you're searching for a job. I don't know anyone who got an interview, nevermind a job, with every firm they were interested in.

corruptbargain, definitely talk to your school's career center. They probably know more than you think.

Try to be persuasive in your cover letter. I hope you did not really put hire me in your real letter.

I didn't. And the above is a hypothetical case.

Which is to say, if I went to a top4 law school, I can jump in the Hudson naked and have had to get rescued by the coast guard, and firms will STILL line up to give me job offers. Too bad I'm not at such a law school.
