Freshman....list your credentials

greenday, do you even know what a napolean complex is?

seriously, freshmen, although you are every bit as entitled to be here as upperclassmen, it is NOT wise. you may say its just for fun, or just because your motivated and ambitious, but even still this is a bad outlet.

as numerous other posters have detailed, CC burnout is HIGHLY, HIGHLY forseeable. many people on the boards are cutthroat like no other, and comparing yourself (which you will do subconciously whether you want to or not) could hurt you at the impressionable time of just beginning high school. you probably don't want to believe me on this, but 3 years really is a long time and you WILL mature a LOT over the course of high school. and well if you don't, i feel bad for you.

this early on, just try to focus on you and your interests and talents. and keep everything in perspective - you do NOT need to be thinking about college yet!!! speaking from experience, i began "looking" early junior year and the info. i have accumulated has been MORE than enough for me to make an informed decision now. trust me.

sincerely, a recently addicted CC'er

"credentials"- as a frosh, you have none...seriouslly, you are just starting, and being part of clubs, etc, is good, believe me, but, they are not "credentials" those need to be earned, with time, commitment, passion, and doing a good job...

Slow down, take a breath...

Being a freshman class representative, member of Student Council and president/founder of an organization on campus are not considered credentials???

not until you actually do stuff, no, its a new title...its what you do with it

If you do it for a couple of years, yes then its a credential

right now, many frosh are in many clubs, with a variety of positions, depth in those clubs is what matters- some last, some don't

and, no offense, but in many cases, frosh class representatives- popularity contest, how can the kids possibly know what your credentials are when just starting out

its the getting elected again and again, sticking with something over the years, that is what counts

I am just saying this so you see that while what you are doing is laudible and great, its not credentials, not yet

I am not trying to be rude, but school has only been in session less than a month... creds take time to earn...winning an election or getting picked is great, but until you actually do things, will it count

I know kids who were in 10 clubs as freshmen, widdled it down to 4, really doing work with those 4 over the next three years, that is how you build up credentials

Well, I've already spent at least a year in all the EC's I've put down . Of course, I'm not going to put down what I did in middle school in my college applications, but it's not as if I've just started any of this stuff.

One year isn't enough. My ECs have been cummulated over 3 years and my interests have matured over that time as well.

To say that you know exactly what you want to do with your high school life and what you want to do for college at this point is bogus.

bogus with a capital "G".

yea whatever theres obviously no winning with you stubborn upperclassmen......apparently you HAVE to be right.....but i dont really care cuz theres nothing you can do to keep me away from this website. My mind will not be poisoned from these threads...i have a brain of my own and i dont emulate everything that the experienced CC'ers do. So its up to you, byt we;re not going anywhere so you might as well just chill instead of constantly reminding us all the time that we should LEAVEand SAVE OURSELVES!!!

We don't say that you should stay away. Just take some caution into what you're getting yourself into and try not to make stress for yourselves.

That's right. Caution with a capital "T".

Hey for all those people who are bashing the freshmen on here, just leave them alone. Hell, I was already here on CC in the summer after 8th grade.

And yet, I agree that freshmen should enjoy a year when things really don't count that much. Last year I was stressing out WAYYY too much and forgot to relax. And now I'm a sophomore reflecting upon a stressful freshman year. Listen to experience on this one, you're not going to have much time to relax later on.

You can work hard, but it's ok if you fail to achieve your goals every once in awhile FRESHMAN year...I can't say the same for later on.

my friends older sister used to say "its okay to slack off freshman year becasue colleges dont care about first year in highschool" until she graduated and only got into 1 of her college choices which was at the bottom of her list. she told me to work as hard as possible freshman year because it is usually the easiest year (they give you some slack for being the new guys) and if you aim for your best, the average GPA in senior year will add up to a higher school, so i wouldn't slack off. I'm a freshman and working my butt off.
anywayz...good luck to all! :)

some people cough me cough, have a dream in mind and realize that there is only one way to get it and thats by trying hard from the beginning. i'm not saying that it's bad not to know where you want to go for college, etc., all i'm saying is that freshman on this site who are worried about college, etc, are not always pushed by their parents. maybe they are just interested in achieving their dreams and goals. that's what i am. my dream is to go to Oxford University and i live in the US. i dont have ALL As at the moment and i know the type of people and the grades that get into oxford. (i know a bunch of peopel who went there) besides, why does it matter how old you are to be on this site. a lot of people go on here because they have nothing better to do. thats how i found out about this. i was at school, and they block all the good sites, so this was what was left. i, personally, am having fun "worrying" about my future and what it could be like. so let us "poor and stressed out" freshman be our "poor and stressed out selves.
P.S...i still have time to party

dgzgomoo,
You still have to party? HA, don't make me laugh. You wouldn't be here if you were at parties and hanging out with your friends. During freshman year and sophmore year i was like," F*** it, I am going to do my homework and study and party hard and go hang with my friend anytime i got. Now, during junior year, i came here and ever since, I come here for advice so I can organize what tests I need to take, how to organize my ec's, etc. But you. GEEEZ. PALEASE, if you had a life, you wouldn't be here. I don't have a life because I am working my booty off on my college application right now.
like you said in your post ," a lot of people go on here because they have nothing better to do".. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! So when you have nothing to do, what do you do. Let's think. Oh I KNOW! You go study, read a book, watch tv, go make some friends, go watch a movie, take a jog, go outside, etc. You don't come here when you have nothing to do when you are a freshman. Seriously.

actually. i'm on here right now b/c i'm bored. to be honest, i actually don't go to very many parties cuz nobody i know is ever having one. but when i feel like it and when i'm not doing homework or studying, i do go to movies and hang out with my friends. yah, i know that junior year/senior year is a lot harder than freshman year...i'm not STUPID. but i actually have fun wasting my time on this website. i like to know stuff and other people's opinions for the heck of it, even if i don't get anything out of it. and i dont get why this whole thing about the freshman got started. no one ever said we weren't allowed, and if you don't like the freshman's threads, then just don't read them or take time posting. it's really that simple

1337noh4k4, Not EVERYONE is like you. You dont know me, so you cant tell me that I dont have a life. So dont say **** if you know nothing about it. Anyway, I post a lot, but it doesnt consume my life, not even close. I hang out with my friends after school or do activities, then i do homework, eat dinner, talk online with my friends while at the same time posting on CC. So I know you wanted to sound all enlightened and all that bs telling us that theres no possible way that you can go on CC and HAVE A LIFE, but you've just proven yourself to frankly be an idiot...

Greendayfan,
415 post for a freshman. Geez. A loner freshman huh. It says you join date is August 2005. Alright lets see, right now is SEPTEMBER 2005! So in, practically 1-2 months, you busted 415 posts. And let's see here, oh, approximately 8 posts a day. WOW.

like you said, " So dont say **** if you know nothing about it."
I'm not saying ... I know that you ARE a piece of *. Go put that *** on your college application to say that this motivated you to work harder. (HAHA, I bet you just got another idea to make your application fresh and new.)

you said," I know you wanted to sound all enlightened and all that bs "
OH BULL*! Me sound enlghtened. HELL * no. You say you guy party and chill with friends. WHo are these friends? YOUR COMPUTER? Oh man, I am an enlightenment thinker, I go out to save the world from CC addiction from freshman. (dat was sarcasm if you didn't know). I'm not trying to save you, I'm trying to show how ridiculous you just made your life.

YOu also said," ..but you've just proven yourself to frankly be an idiot..." So NOW you are calling me an idiot. clap clap clap. The best insult I have ever heard in my life. You are the idiot. You are wasting your time right now. I am wasting my time right now and extremely unhappy. But I have to... why? because I can't afford private counselors to give me advice and crap. That's why I come here and waste my time. Good luck having a "Time of your life". ( Get it, green day song)

1337noh4k4 looks ****ed. But hey, scary stuff he is saying. GreenDayFan, do not make fun of this guy. Also, I think he was talking to dgzgomoo, not you GreenDayFan.
here's my opinion.
You guys are both right. 1337noh4k4 and GreenDayFan. 1337noh4k4 makes good points and GreenDayFan does too. 1337noh4k4, chill out a bit. You too GreenDayFan.
1337noh4k4, if you got any college questions, you can ask me anytime. PM me and I will give you my AIM screenname and any questions about the application or any editing, I will help you.
GreendayFan, if you want to stay, then stay. You seem like a motivated guy, but I don't know about parental pressure. You might have pressure from your folks or you might not. Whether there is any pressure, you have the right to stay here if you wish. So good luck. Just don't regret what you do. Good Luck to you all.
