Freshman or transfer? Foreign language necessary?

I am approaching my senior year of high school, so I have begun to look for colleges I may be interested in applying to. Through my high school and local college I am taking concurrent enrollment classes. I plan to graduate from high school with my Utah Certificate of General Education Completion, equal to 36 college credits. This leads to my first question, would I apply as a freshman or transfer student? Secondly, my high school does not require a foreign language for graduation, this along with the fact that my school only offers Chinese has led me to a graduation plan lacking in a foreign language. I have noticed that some schools I may be interested in require 2 years of a foreign language. Am I ineligible to apply to those colleges? I feel like I am a fairly competitive applicant excluding my lack of foreign language, 3.8 GPA 32 composite ACT. I would in fact like to learn a foreign language while in college, could I perhaps fill the requirement while attending? Any helpful information would be appreciated.

Usually frosh if all of your college courses are before high school graduation.

But not having any foreign language is a big impediment to frosh admission to many more selective colleges.

Check each college for its specific rules.

If you are doing dual enrollment, why didn’t you take the FL classes there? One semester course in college is equivalent to one year of HS FL.

There was a limited number of classes available. No foreign language offered.

Freshmen

The problem is your HS does offer one FL which you did not take. If it is not due to a conflict of schedule or limited quota, you don’t have a good excuse for not fulfilling the college application requirement.

Freshman and you’ll get advanced standing after you register.

But not having a foreign language will be a huge impediment, as not only do typicaly 4-year colleges require 2, but
See if you can take foreign language at a community college, starting this summer with level 1, level 2 in the Fall, level 3 in the Spring would cover you for all universities, and Level 1 in the Fall/Level2 Spring for most selective 4-year universities. Another possibility could be Summer Level 1 and Spring Level 2 if the closest community college doesn’t offer foreign languages and you have to travel or take an online course.

Thank you all
