Freshman or Transfer given my current situation

I’m an undergrad at UBC (in British Columbia, Canada) and for some personal, validated reasons, I had to drop a majority of my first year courses, thus only completing 2.0 course credits (each course was 0.5 and I took 4) of the required 6.0 course credits. I’m not allowed to progress into the second year courses of B.A.Sc until I finish my first year requirements, which I am now doing in my “second” year here. By the end of this year, I will only have completed 6.0 course credits. However, in order to be eligible to transfer at most American universities, I need at least 8.0 course credits. So my question is this: do I apply as freshman or transfer?

I will be disclosing all my marks, they’re fairly good, and am in good academic standing as well.

My application will be quite strong either way, however I need to know if I am eligible for transfer - is there something Im missing here?

Please and thank you.

You need to contact each place on your list, and ask them whether you are a freshman applicant or a transfer applicant. Each place sets its own policy about this. Even if you are considered a freshman applicant, you will need to provide an official copy of your transcript from UBC.
