Freshman Orientation

Does anybody know anything about orientation?
Office of New Student Programs | Incoming Freshmen | Orientation | Fall - University of Michigan
I went to that site and saw that orientation was from June 6th to August 3rd.
I'm going to be out of country from June 14th to August 2-4th though.

^Then I suggest you sign up for June 6 date(s) a.s.a.p.

Remember that that’s orientation dates for 2010.

It also says that “Information about Freshman Orientation is emailed in mid-April to all students who have paid their enrollment deposit.”

Has anyone received information regarding orientation?

My S just got an email from UMich about it with the links to sign up. Each session is 3 days long.

I just got an e-mail today about orientation.
It’s mandatory and if you can’t make it during the summer, you can go from like… august 30th -sept 1st.
Since I’m out of state, I think Orientation is a little dumb. I’d have to buy plane tickets to go there, and come back, then go back again. Even during August 30th-Sept 1st. Classes begin Sept 6th, so would I be able to stay in my dorm til then or would I have to sleep in a hotel or something…?

^You would take early occupancy of your residence room to accommodate. No need for the trip back home.

Orientation is when you sign up for classes so it isn’t dumb. If you arrive early in August, there is an ability to move in your room early. I know it cost extra. I don’t know how early and how much extra.

So it’d be better going to the late orientation instead of going now and wasting money on plane tickets.

Wait… I typed that and realized how obvious my answer is…
I guess I’ll be attending the “late” orientation.
I wonder how many students will be there.
