What goes on during ^?

You meet people in your hall, dorm, Orientation Leader group, and through mutual friends

You go to informational meetings about cornell policies and your college's procedures.

You party and enjoy your first awesome week at college.

Make sure to go gorge jumping too, there is only like a month at the beginning of the semester when it's warm enough.

Orientation Leader groups are groups of about 10 to 15 kids with an upperclassmen leader. You meet for an hour or so once a day during O-week. The leader is almost always a member of the greek system (greek=fraternity/sorority for you newbs, becuse of the greek letter names of the organizations). The leader first plays dumb ice breakers with you to help...break the ice, duh...by the end you're all fairly cool with each other, and at your meetings instead of being like "i like ponies, what do you like" you will go get lunch at collegetown bagels or something cool like that, and be genuinely talking to each other. By the 2nd half of O week, we had gone to a party at my OLs frat, during which he saw us and called a "mandatory OL meeting in his room" where he mixed drinks for those who wanted them. Really nice friendly guy. The OLs do it becuse they want to help you know cornell, not really to build their resumes.

Important: don't be scared of upperclassmen. They are all really really friendly at cornell during O-week. They will invite you to come back the next night to party at their apartments or houses, or to stop by their frats some time during the semester. It's not like "eew freshmen" like it was in HS. I'm sure i'll see some of you all!

Wait...so Freshman Orientation is that before or after you move in your dorm?

You move into your dorm the first day of Orientation Week. Starts August 18, I believe.

it's after.

it's the greatest weeek Cornell has to offer. Loads and loads of fun and opportunites will await you.

Sorry gomestar, but rush week kicks the **** out of orientation week (at least for guys). Orientation week is solid #2, though.

Basically, orientation week is the swim test, OL meetings (read: getting invited to your first frat parties), a bunch of "mandatory" crap that you can totally skip, and a lot of random collegetown parties that you can visit. It's basically a week to party with/get to know your fellow freshman.

Excellent, the beer starts flowing before you get your feet wet... That's great for us non-drinkers. :p

I'll bring the Mountain Dew! hahahaha
:D

Trust me, a good many if not most of you teetotalers will see the light and start drinking during freshman year. Honestly, as surprised as I was by how many kids who got in didn't drink during HS, I've been even more surprised by how many nondrinkers decided to start drinking this year.

Have you ever heard of the Rock of Gibraltar? ;)

It's not that I'm a goody-goody, I just don't do it for more personal reasons (realtive's death and the disgusting state of a few current family members when inebriated). I don't condone drinking--in fact, I am a reliable DD for my buddies, lol--I just don't partake in it.

I just found it funny that frat party drinking is introduced so early.

i wasn't even on campus rush week. I did an internship in Buffalo that was awesome. Cornell alums really love to hook us up.

Note:
Matt Pearlstone, a Cornell student, whose screen name is Lucifer11287, as noted on facebook, passed away on March 17, 2006 after attending a fraternity party at UVA.

wasn't this a bit of a random location for that post, calmom?

Yea, it's getting a bit out of hand. The location makes no sense.

Anyways, orientation week is great...I was drunk 9 days in a row. It's a great time for meeting people, getting drunk and hooking up. You can also like...go to informational sessions, if you'd like.

I posted here because there was a very recent post by lucifer11287 here -- I just looked up his recent posts and added a note in a couple of places where it seemed that the discussion was still active. I assumed people would want to know.

It was not a random post by Calmom. The boy who posted #8 above, lucifer11287, died on March 16, supposedly of alcohol poisoning.

Ah I see. God that's so eerie. He was just talking to blackferrari about how many nondrinkers had become drinkers during his stay at Cornell.
