Freshman Orientation

Just wondering are there benefits to attending bu orientation earlier rather than later in terms of choosing classes and not being able to take what you want? I really don’t want to take morning classes hehe:)

Is anyone else having trouble registering for orientation? My D can’t register online, it won’t let her and she already has a BU account. Plus she never got an email regarding orientation like it said in the letter she got confirming her deposit was made. I guess we have to call Monday morning.

If you’re in a school like the College of Arts & Sciences, you’re not going to have a problem registering for big lectures at any of the dates. If you want to have more flexibility at when your discussion components are or which writing class topic that you want, then earlier definitely can be beneficial.

Another perk of early orientation is that the weather tends to still be less hot than later in the summer too, which makes sleeping overnight in the dorms better! Plus, orientation most likely will get you extra amped about BU early on in the summer with an earlier session. I know that I was really eager to get a glimpse at BU life as soon as possible during my senior summer.

I’d say that if you are available for the first or second one, do it. Don’t stress if you’re not though.

Well as said CAS students shouldn’t have any trouble, if you are registering for CH 101 that’s the only thing, they keep parts open all summer but some of the best professors are snatched up in a heartbeat (like Abrams!! and even Dill).

If you are in ENG the only real disadvantage you are at are for your EK 131/132 classes. A few of the cool options are snagged quick. Besides that attend which orientation you want, once you get registered you can check your classes and switch them whenever you want!!

How about for SMG?

For SMG, your discussion session for SM 121/122 (the freshman management requirement) will be assigned and you’ll have the same section in the spring. The advantages of attending early is to form connections with people sooner, register for your other courses (EC 101, MA 121, and WR 100) earlier and have more availability in those courses.
