Freshman orientation

So how is freshman orientation going for your kids? Did they get the classes and dorms they wanted? The web site says that the freshman class is huge!

Yesterday was a very bittersweet day for us. We delivered our one and only child to college. She is going to be so very happy there at Hendrix. We are so excited for her, but sad for us that we come home to an empty house ... well, if you don't count the dog. DD was to take her French placement test this morning. They've got all kinds of things scheduled ... meetings with advisors, orientation trip, etc. She's doing the Eurkea Springs trip. I can't remember what day registration is, but I believe they have to meet with their faculty advisors before their classes are confirmed. She is on the third floor at Couch Hall and I think she will really like it there. Her roommate is very sweet and kind and they met loads of people yesterday. They had a class picture taken on the brick patio and there were LOTS of freshman there. I don't know how large the class is, but quite a bit bigger than previous years from what I understand.

Texasmom, I look forward to hearing from you how things went. I kept an eye out for your people, but I didn't see them. My PM box has been full for some time and I must clear it. I'll try to get to it tomorrow. We had to get back for work today, so we finally tore ourselves away at 6:30 and got home at 1:00 this morning. I'm more emotionally exhausted than physically exhausted, but all I can hear is my bed calling my name!!!

I can't believe DS is finally off! And let me tell you there was quite a drama taking place before he left....DH and DD were getting ready to drive him up to school and DS informs me Sunday night he's made the biggest mistake of his life! He doesn't want to go, there are no classes he wants to take, and here's THE issue...he's going to miss his girlfriend! So I told him he could stay home and go to community college and transfer to the big state school next year if he wanted, but he had to live at home and get a job....well that changed his mind very quickly....he decided to go, but said he's transfering at semester....which DH and I nixed. We told him he had to give it a year.

Anyway, he's there, DH and DD helped him get his room set up, he was thankful they were there to help him, and hopefully he has made some friends. I'm praying that by the end of the school year he will have adjusted to college, new routines, and living with a roommate. Oh, get this, he hasn't had an actual conservation with his roommate all week! This should be an interesting season for us.

Oh my gosh, Texasmom, the drama! I just don't know how he won't really love it once he's there. I had to laugh as I was reading your post, envisioning that conversation. Please remind me what dorm he is in. DD is in Couch. She has sounded so very happy each time we have talked to her. She was going to the registrar's office to pick up one more class today. I believe in my heart that she will be very happy there. Good luck to your DS ... I know he'll be fine, too!!!! I'm sorry I didn't see him, your DD or your hubby last week.
