Freshman Orientation

So, who is going? Which date and which program option?

I am debating whether I should go by myself or with my parents, due to the pricing ($179-207 ***...?) and conflicting work/time schedules (I live 2 hours away...)

Is it really necessary/recommended to go?

Orientation is necessary. However, the only necessay part is registering for classes, which is on the second day. they have important info sessions, with useless stuff in between. last year, i skipped some of the programs and left early because they were a waste of time to me. Most parts were useless anyway: ice breakers, games, a sample lecture (just so you know what a lecture feels like…), and a “student night out” which lasted until like 9 pm and was totally unnecessary especially when you’ve been walking around campus since 8 am. I left at 6 pm and didn’t care what was after that because I was freaking tired. You can’t really avoid the ice breakers and games though, because they were usually followed by an inportant information session or program.

and my parents didn’t sign up for orientation. They just hung out in the city and stuff. You and your parents are gonna be attending separate programs anyway. The parent program is pretty much the student program scheduled differently (minus the class registration part). but if your parents are interested to get to know about the school better, the parent orientation may be useful. my parents didn’t even care lol.

I’m going! My stepmoms coming along but she’s not going to orientation, she’ll be staying in Santa Barbara. I’m also gonna stay over night in the dorms. I donno what days yet.

What do you do on the Student Night Out?

if i wanna party the night we stay over for orientation, is there stuff going on in iv?

i’m not sure about student night out (since i skipped the whole thing), but it was probably just socializing and that kind of stuff.

Is it necessary (as in, according to some rules)? No, it isn’t.

Personally, I thought it was a really expensive waste of time, but I had to go because (I believe) it’s necessary for FSSP students.

I think your orientation guide just takes you to a place in IV to get a snack somewhere (Woodstock’s, I think). I didn’t go, mostly because I thought it’d be better to have a nice meal in Santa Barbara with my parents instead on the last night they’d be there, while I’d stay the next 6-7 weeks for FSSP.

Yes. There’s always stuff going on in IV. I remember a good amount of people going out the first night they got there. I don’t think it’s as busy as the school year, though.

do u sleep oever there?

Yes, depending on what program you choose.

made up mind to go on june 25-26 ( the earliest) is anyone else going also? What date?

im going june 25-26 as well

Do you have to stay at the dorm overnight? Will there be consequences if you don’t?

no you dont have to.

i stayed at a hotel last year. i thought it was better 'cos i wouldn’t have to sleep in the same dorm room with someone i didn’t know lol.

I’m gonna cus I wanna get a feel for the dorms

that’s probably a good idea too =D

I’m going on June 25-26 also. We should find each other that day :D

I reserved! Going July 20th and 21st

K I lied, going on July 6-7 instead :X

wow i feel like im going really late compared to everyone else…
