Freshman parking..

possible ?

i've heard it isn't, much to my disappointment

moped !

Its definitely possible if you want to pay....

A unit 2 garage that my friend parked at costed him just over 100/month

does every unit provide parking? is it by first come first serve basis?

I assume you're commuting to school or live pretty far off campus since only students who live outside the two mile boundary zone can purchase parking permits.

Units 1/2 are adjacent to the Underhill garage. Unit 3 is close to the Ellsworth structure.

Here's a link to a map of parking lots. Lots available to students are denoted with a circular 'S' (for student permits). http://pt.berkeley.edu/formsandpublications/documents/PadMap2008.pdf

Renting spaces from landlords/tenants in apartment buildings is also another great option; since you're usually guaranteed an assigned space whereas the univ. parking spots are never guaranteed.

would the university parking allow cars to stay overnight? i always assumed no, since theyre meant for commuters and whatnot

School parking permits are obscenely expensive as well. Totally not worth it if it can be avoided.

oh nvm.. ill be living on campus. so i guess that means no car..

You can get a residence hall permit wich is, as said before, ~$100 per month. The other option, if you're living in the residence halls, is the storage lot (where my car is) at only $350 for the year. Trouble is, the storage lot is at Ashby and San PAblo which is pratically in Oakland. The number 9 will take you from the BART station in downtown to really close by.

jscg, so the storage lot you park at, is pretty far off campus? I have no clue where ashby and san pablo is... haha.. -.- nor what is number 9 ><.

google map 101 Folger Ave in Berkeley for the storage lot. It's 2 1/2 miles from campus according to Berkeley's site, so yea it's pretty far. Number 9 probably refers to the AC transit bus line.

Use craigslist to find parking spaces closer to campus if you really want to bring your car. Anything below $100/month would be a bargain.

It's kind of far off campus; 2.5 miles sounds right. It's right next to the central recieving warehouse for Cal. It's really convinient if you just want to use your car maybe once a month or more for a weekend or to go home during breaks. That, and it's really cheap; waaaay less than the "bargain" of 100 a month.

Oh, and #9 is the bus; sorry I didn't make that clear!

^ Cool I'll ask my parents if they'll let me.. haha Yea I live like a 6-8 hour drive.. socal!! Is it safe to leave it there if we're only gonna use once or twice a month..? How hard is it to get a spot?
