Hi,

I read somewhere that starting this Fall semester, freshmen on the NB campus will be able to get a parking permit for their cars. Is that true? I really hope so as it would really help to have my car on campus.

It is true =)

I believe they implicated this rule just last year because the year before when I was a freshman, we weren’t allowed to have a car on campus if we didn’t fit any of the exceptions (living on Livingston, having an off campus job, out of stater).

Excellent to hear! Do you know how/when I can register my car and get my permit?

This website should come in handy:
[Rutgers-NewBrunswick/Piscataway Parking Permits](<a href=“Parking & Transportation Services | Institutional Planning and Operations”>Parking & Transportation Services | Institutional Planning and Operations)

This link gives you information regarding student online registration:

We heard about this at parent orientation. There will be a lottery and you will have to pick a campus at which you will register your car. You will park your car on that campus only. They said to get your application in as soon as possible because they will use all the spaces allotted (so you want to try to get your home campus or you will have to park at another campus and then take the bus to your dorm).

You must leave your car parked there during the week, ie, you cannot drive between campuses to get to class, you must still take the bus. I guess it is for people to be able to arrive/depart the campus only.

yes this is true but like someone else said, you can only park your car in the designated parking lot for which your car is registered for…so you’ll still have to deal with the buses. if you live near NB or are familiar with it, you can purchase a permit at the public safety building on cook campus on the corner of Commercial Ave and George Street. not sure if they are giving them out now, I thought they only started in August.

Parking permits will be available in August and we were told to apply right away if you wanted one because they will go quickly.

Just wondering, if I’m going to pass my test soon – like maybe early or mid August – will I be able to apply for a parking space beforehand? Bad timing…
